Default Key will not remove since car thinks it not in Park

The car is in park, but error message on dash states that it is not. Because of this, will not release ignition key.

Anyone experience this issue?

ideas on what is malfunctioning?

Let me guess - A PDK Transmission?
.....Have no idea a cure but I'm sure someone will chime in who is familiar with this issue.

I think if you look in the manual and right around the ignition switch, there is a manual way to release the key. I’m going to be super simple here, but sometimes disconnecting the battery for 20 min can fix this.

Good ideas. In the door for the fuse panel there is a tool with a long stiff wire. Push this into the hole by the key to release it. That works for when the battery is dead. I'm not sure about with the transmission not indicating in park.

My very strange experience: I had a 2011 Panamera and went to a mall in ATL that had valet parking. Well apparently there was another Panamera getting valet parking as well. The attendant tried to move mine with the wrong key and it disabled my car. We called the Porsche help line and they walked me through manual unlocking of the key. Then we were able to start it with my key. That’s how I learned where the manual release was for the key being locked in the ignition.

Does the gear indicator show correct gear if you manually change the gear or just park position? Appears there’s a shift fork position sensor that could be bad. I’m not expert so guessing here lol.

After turning the key about 5 times, it does eventually release.

just not sure why it thinks it is not in Park when the shifter and dash notification shows in Park

Don’t believe related to PDK if that’s the case. As other post indicated, prob switch related.

Ignition switches can be a problem in these 997's and many have been replaced.
You might want to replace yours and see if it solves the issue.

Good luck with the fix.
