Will you have a DSC controller join your B16 Damptronic setup?

 

I will when they're not out of stock, hahaha. It's planned but I want to test the setup without it first.

 

I had some spare time this afternoon so I decided to install a fire extinguisher mount I got off eBay. It should have been plug and play but my fire extinguisher support didn't fit any of the holes in the mount so I had to fabricate a small metal piece using the scrap metal from the DVD navigation cage I removed the other day to be able to bolt it. It's a tight fit but I'd rather have it handy in case I need it.

 

Today I installed a couple of parts I got from @Graufuchs - excellent condition and perfect packaging, thanks a lot!

The throttle controller I got came with a small remote to change the throttle response on the fly but I didn't want to install it with the double-sided tape it included so I repurposed the ashtray with a bit of filing down the plastic with a Dremel.

 

Pretty cool @smrpr . Have you road tested the Sprint Booster yet? Curious your feedback.

 

I may remove the SprintBooster from my car if you're looking for one at a slight discount. Not 100% sure yet, but maybe. The way the pedal augmentation causes the supercharger to kick in is not as smooth as I'd even though I like the easier rev matching when driving in a spirited manner. Just not sure it's worth it for me to keep it with the supercharger setup. I need to try level 1 in both modes to see if I can have the faster (not larger) throttle plate movement without the extra signal augmentation as that's really what I was after when installing it.

 

The color is rare. I usually spotted these ones in metallic.

 

Appreciate the input, @Petza914 and the potential buying opportunity. I haven't been super inclined to spring for one of these 'boosters' because I don't want/need to mimic the sort of pedal input magnification that happens with Sport mode, which I never use... I am perfectly fine with the standard, non-Sport mode relationship between pedal travel & throttle delivery. The temptation has been more about the potential to increase throttle plate speed. But I'm not sure I have a real use case as H/T rev matching is easy for me to manage as-is.

 

 

This thread was due an update

New rear main seal, clutch and flywheel in. The 3d printed tool did a good job of pushing the seal the proper way.





Also, while in there, I decided to change the whole exhaust system as it was very rusty and probably wouldn't pass inspection. We started unbolting the header bolts and...




As expected, most of the bolts snapped. I had to pause the job and order a tool to remove the broken bolts from Verboten in the UK, and it took an awfully long time to ship:




With that done, the reinstall was much easier. We had to cut the exhaust in many parts as every bolt that we touched snapped. It was a nightmare.



So, in the end, it was an unexpectedly expensive job as I had to buy almost every support, bolt and clamp for the exhaust. But it's done and I hope I don't have to do it ever again


These brackets were almost 800 euros each. When we tried to unbolt them, the bolts snapped. Ended up grinding the heads and replacing them with new hardware. Better than new!

In the end, I went with:

- Silverlake titanium header studs
- TopGear equal length headers
- Topgear 200 cell crossover cats
- OEM silencers with Fister mod





Currently the car has no tailpipes as I am trying to restore the original ones, I like them a lot. But the bolt is (surprise!) rusty and I'm having a hard time removing it.



Now, let's talk about the sound. I wanted to keep the flat6 sound and make it a bit sportier. Read that 200 cell cats were the way to go, as catless was too much for a street driven car. I thought that, while I was in there, doing the Fister mod wouldn't hurt, and it would still keep the sound mild. Spoiler: It's NOT mild. It's crazy loud, so much that we checked 3 times for leaks because we couldn't believe how loud it was. It's ok if I'm cruising and I'm very lightly on the gas, but when I step on it it HOWLS. I like that it is still drivable as with the windows up I don't hear it, but I heard it from the outside and I'm anticipating problems with the police for sure. I need to think how to fix this or I won't be able to drive the car after 9PM...

 

Paint looks fantastic. Did you get paint correction done?

Thanks! It’s ok, I bought it knowing it was a project car, problem is that I haven’t been able to drive it a lot with all of the maintenance I’ve been doing! Hopefully it should be better from now on.
