Default Best looking Porsche 911 generation

This article confirms what we all know but it's nice to see it recognized somewhere else!

I share his admiration for the 997, but I place the 964 just ahead of the 996 at the bottom of my list.

Ungainly bumpers and funky OEM wheels are not as ugly as the 996 slab sides and Boxster headlights- but no one was crying about Singer cutting them up 10 years ago.

The 3.6 turbo S was a looker- but I am surprised the 964 values have skyrocketed (as have all air cooled models).

FWIW, my ranking:

997
993
G-model
901
991
992
964
996

I have a 996 and a 986 plus my 997.2 turbo S but proportionally the 997 is perfect balance at every corner
it’s a handsome design that’s aging beautifully

Tough call.
i think it always has a direct connection to which one was on the cover of all the magazines when you were in high school, or when you first started falling in love with Porsche.

i have a G body and a 997
they both look cool.

one has heated seats, AC that works, and a power convertible.
the other is all manual…

but the both look way better than a Volvo

I think it's a tight 1st & 2nd between the 997 and 993 in my opinion.

Great find. On my third 997 now so I agree of course. Also just bought an extended 4 year Fidelity warranty so the 2011 GTS is a keeper. I've tried to warm up to the 991 and 992 but can't get there, Only reason for buying the warranty for the current GTS is the PDK. I really like the PDK but after two failures, now costing $20K when it happens I want that covered.

Ironic though.. I've owned a 964 back in 1992, and then a 996 in 2000, and then a 997 in 2009.
Last year, I went back to owning a Porsche and instinctively chose a 997. Budget was not an issue for me either.

I have to break up my rankings into two categories: best aircooled (964) and best watercooled (997). They are so distinct and deserve their own space. That said, my overall #1 pageant winner would be the 964 widebody sans wing.

997.1 for me, no question. I grew up with these cars, so nothing else come close. The GT2 variant is particularly stunning and perhaps the best looking factory model IMO.

Then 993 and 991.1 as close second. 993 as the penultimate aircooled model. and 991.1 for its elegance, especially the Carrera models. The worst looking one for me is 996.1 (996.2 was much much better) due to how cheap it looks with the yellow egg york headlight and 992 for how busy and Audish it looks.

Well said. Couldn't agree more.

I think the 997 will take the 964 spot for overall desirability for the water-cooled cars. Its carries a traditional 911 silhouette but the overall build quality and materials is a major leap (from the 996) for the model series.

After 50+(and counting) hours working on a 964 turbo, it really makes me appreciate the build quality and materials used on the 997. What a difference 10-15yrs can make.

Dream Car - Mint 964

Dream Car 997 GT3

That being said I am completely happy/content with what I currently have.

I love my 997.2 C2 but my first love and first Porsche was a 1990 964 Carrera-4 show here in front of my house.

Shortly after this picture was taken I realized that the rear wing was "a little too much", so I removed/sold it and went back to the original stock lid. I drove it for 8 years and to this day I lament not having kept it.
