That's another one! I read somewhere that they bought all of the existing 964 something or other; I think it was engines or OEM parts. Remember they were the unloved 911 for a while.

I would like to add an air cooled 911 but not at the prices they are now.

The limited 997 GTS inventory, especially the RWD 6MT Coupes, almost ensures demand will continue to exceed supply.
That cues the speculators to step in and flip at the expense of those who want to own and actually experience them long term.
A bit of a shame, as the GTS is, to me, a cool looking comfortable road trip 997 and a very capable canyon carver...in one vehicle.
First Carrera to be badged as, and truly embody the GTS ideal: Grand Tourismo and Sport.

It’s not exactly easy to find a low mileage, manual 997.2 S these days, so 65% of the dollars may be wishful thinking. For me, the subtle differences are worth the premium anyway, and given how the 997.2 is increasingly acknowledged to be the perfect blend of analogue feel and daily drivability, it’s very unlikely you’ll experience much depreciation either with a 997.2 S or a GTS.

One thing that hasn't been mentioned yet (unless I missed it) is that the GTS has an exhaust sound all its own. Especially with the center muffler replaced with any of the bypass options. I can't come up with a good description but it has more of a "mechanical" note to it compared to a C2S or C4S. Sort of a "hollow" sound if that makes any sense. Due to the X-51 kit I'm guessing. It's subtle but definitely different compared to my previous -09 C4S. Here's a video where you may be able to hear what I'm blabbering about. My indy tech said the same thing for what it's worth and he's heard them all. Scroll forward to 1:47 and you may pick up on it:

Good point. You nail it with "hollow".
I have not heard a Sharky X-pipe on a 997.2 S, but the GTS with X-51 and PSE is a perfect match.
A glorious flat six in full song, wow. Just wow.
The sound is all I would want in a street car.
Pretty awesome and rendered mellow with the PSE switch.
Jekyl/Hyde with a button.

IIRC, the weight savings vice the restricive OEM center mufflers is just under 10 pounds.
It also dyno'd out as a 12 hp/11 ft/lb gain at the wheels. (See graph below).
(The $16K X-51 option was +23 hp and identical torque except max was attained 200 RPM sooner)

What's not to like?

From the Sharkwerks 997 GTS tuning guide:

"There is also a highly desirable factory exhaust option (PSE or Porsche Sport Exhaust), mostly only found on 2010 and newer cars (PSE was delayed on most of the 2009 year cars), which allows you to switch the side mufflers from a quiet to louder mode at the click of an exhaust button. This is also compatible with aftermarket exhaust sections mentioned below.

The exhaust is the same on all 997 Carrera, S, 4, 4S, and GTS models with the only option being the PSE mentioned in this article. After the headers (A), the exhaust enters a single center muffler (B) then flows into two large side mufflers (C), and exits through the tailpipes at either side of the rear bumper.

"The exhaust is notoriously quiet, with many owners stating this is their primary complaint about the car. It is the quietest 911 to date, with the peppiest engine, making it feel more like a luxury car than a sports car. Luckily its three-muffler design makes it easier to modify than previous 911s.

If you are new to the aftermarket exhaust options available for these cars, we highly recommend you visit local "Cars and Coffee" type events, race tracks and performance shops to hear the different systems in person. No video or description can ever replace the first hand experience of hearing it for yourself.

Most people want something louder that sounds good, but these are subjective terms. Generally we do not outfit these cars with something that's too loud, obnoxious or problematic. Hearing a car in person instead of over PC speakers can help you determine your ideal exhaust solution, this is simply our take."

No Sharlwerks affiliation, just admiration.
