Default Bizarre steering setup on a potential 997.2 purchase?

I’ve been in the market for a 997.2 6MT C2S. Found a listing in Utah but upon closer inspection, the previous owner has somehow removed the power steering pump and installed some kind of electric steering system. Talked to the PPI mechanic and they have no idea how much it would cost to try to bring the system back to stock, and to top it off, the electric steering system sporadically turns off.

Does anyone here happen to know what exactly the previous owner did here, and how much it would cost ballpark to get the steering back to stock? The car otherwise checks out and I’d hate to turn my back on an otherwise seemingly well sorted 997.2. Is this just a total dealbreaker?

Can’t tell in the pics, but it might be the cup car conversion like this one:

That could be a CUP power steering pump but the picture is too bad to identify it properly. If it turns off sporadically, it was not installed correctly. These pumps need auto self-resetting circuit breakers. I bet the original power steering pump has been removed (have your mechanic check) and an underdrive pulley has been installed also. The power steering pump itself, is less than $1,000. Also, this doesn't look like stock ride height so the car has been tinkered with in multiple places.

I’m linking the original PPI report here, not sure if the pictures might be better here, enough to tell which pump it is?

The shop did confirm that the car is on lowering springs.

Impossible to tell the kind of pump from the pictures. You need somebody to get a part number, but if it’s working only intermittent anyway that’s outright dangerous and I’d question the entire installation. I’d also be worried about the over revs and the oil pressure warning light.

Nice car, but is it possible that it was someone's track toy? Cup car power steering conversion, upgraded brakes (girodisc rotors?), no rear seats, suspension...

I might be having a deja vu moment but hasn’t this come before? I vaguely recall a similar posting a few months ago.

Yeah I think like many are voicing here, this is not going to be the car for me. Going to keep searching... 997.2s are just really hard to come by. If anyone has any tips on where to look, would be mighty appreciated.

i was under the impression that cars need to be 25 years old or more to be imported into the US. Is this not the case with Canada?

if you see any, please point them my way! From what I can tell, this is the only 997.2 manual coupe out there at the moment under 100k miles (and not crazy overpriced).
