OMG BAT
I sold my 2007 997 C4S with 28,500 one-owner miles for $55,500. The Porsche dealer in Omaha purchased it and is offering it for $70,000.

$70k for a 997.1 C4S is a bit crazy IMO.
Seeing some responses from some folks on here over the years about trusting a used car at a Porsche dealer, so that will give some folks some added confidence to pay more.
I personally don’t trust dealers and see no real benefit in paying more at one, but some people do.
So even if they get $63k they will have had transport, make ready and BaT buyer premium to pay.
That dealership has a heap of expenses compared to someone listing a car on BaT, electric bills, real estate costs, sales commissions etc.

A rule I adopted years ago: NEVER look to see what a dealer re-lists your car for. Along the same lines, never tell anyone what you paid for a car. If pushed I just say "too much".

There's always some 1st time Porsche buyer with more money than brains who will buy Dealer mark up Porsche.

Remember for many, a Porsche purchase is an emotional purchase. Also many first time Porsche buyers are not as savvy as many on this site. Recently I saw a post on a Bat auction from a fairly well known dealer who said good cars are getting hard to come by.....therefore, your 997 weekend driver may be starting to get recognized as a value as it get older....(look at the 80's 3.2 carrera prices! Great drivers, but AC doesn't work, horsepower is weak, and they feel like VW's compared to a 997 - not saying I don't like them, I just recognize what a 997 will bring in 5 or 10 years as they get "seasoned" - and some say "no, they made too many of them", but they made a ton of 80's carreras ...........)

Let's assume they are actually going to get $70k, which is $9,500 more than the BaT price, including the buyer's premium. They have transportation, staff, showroom space, financing costs and all the other expenses of running a business to deduct from that $9,500. Not a business I would want to be in, particularly since they are probably going to accept a bit less than asking.

When the dealer has no 992s to sell or allocate, they will gladly sell clean older 911s. A Porsche dealership, has to have more than base Boxster's and Macan's to have on their showroom floor.
Is there a dealer premium, absolutely.

Buyers only pay a 5% fee on top of the final sale price to BaT, capped at $5,000. $58,275 based on the $55,500 final bid.

I understand that buying your 1st Porsche is an emotional experience but why add the drama of a non-inspected possible bucket of worms to the pot??

Plenty of buyers arrange inspections prior to the auction closing, at least from what I've seen in the comments. Not to mention that BaT auctions tend to bring out the largest peanut gallery, who are keen to point out any flaw or discrepancy in the vehicle history.

Bottom line, if you want to spend top dollar on any sportscar buy on BAT.
IMO smart practical buyers will buy a west coast Calif/AZ/OR/WA car in person from private seller and perform PPI/Bore Scope Inspection prior to purchase.
Has worked well for me over past 37 years
This of course doesn't include a rare collector car that seem to be prevelant on BAT/Hemmings/etc. Most owners of these rare breeds only sell on Auction.

I not complaining about the dealer he’s entitled to whatever profit he can make. I was a bit disappointed in BAT. I apparently needed more than two bidders😎 selling over a holiday weekend didn’t help. All good we love our 23 911 C4S.
