Car transport
Hello Gentlemen, looking to transport my daughter’s car from LA back to NY. It’s a 2022 Equinox.Should I spend the extra money for a closed trailer vs open trailer. Any suggestions on a reliable car transporter. Thank you in advance

I am shipping my 911 to the LA area a month from now, area since I will be there for 90 days.
Open was $1,900 round trip and enclosed was $2,700, so I am going open.

My car was delivered from NY to Los Angeles just a few months ago.....$2500 enclosed is what I paid. Hope that helps.

I used intercity enclosed for my 911 from NYC to LA.
If it were my Volvo SUV, I woudl have gone open and gotten it detailed once it arrived. I think enclosed really only for high value cars. Otherwise I think it'll be fine.

I used https://stopwatchusa.com because they have a great reputation on the Ram TRX forum for the last two years. Shipped my 2009 C4 Cab from San Francisco to Long Island, NY in an enclosed truck for $2900. I am 60 miles east of Manhattan and traffic is generally brutal. My guess is that accounted for the slightly higher cost. Worked perfectly…

You can pay an extra $100 or so and have your car guaranteed to be on top of truck if you go enclosed or open carrier. I've done this many times and prevents oil drips/etc.

Being the type of car it is, I'd go open. If shipping a Porsche, then enclosed

You may have had better carriers than I have. I was basically laughed at when I asked to be guaranteed on top. The drivers told me (which kinda makes sense) they will rebalance their cargo when they load/unload other cars, so whereever it goes for that reason is where you land. Plus, he warned me about possible damage if they have to drive through dense tree-lined streets up top. I’m sure they do their best but…it happens.
I’ve only shipped long distance a few times, all open, and never an issue but you do have to be careful. There’s an argument for and against any location on the truck. Weather window? If you’re going across the country, it’s storm season in the middle still. Hail damage sucks.
3rd option: if it’s not something you’re emotionally attached to, sell it and buy something else when you get there? Another kind of hassle, no doubt, but maybe worth considering?

Even with a Porsche or high end car, if you ship during summer, open carrier works well--->Much less expensive and if it's transported on top, eliminates and road debris or oil drips.
Not many people are aware but the cars on bottom get pissed on with oil. Happens all the time. They wash the cars before delivery to clean them off but who wants to take a chance on Brake Fluid/Tranny or engine oil damaging paint or trim pieces.

Open will be fine for this car. Now an expensive sports car? Closed every day

When I sold my beloved 996TT on here and an open carrier showed up to claim it, a little tear formed at the corner of my eye. That said, I would love to hear more feedback on reliable carriers since I have a family car getting restored in California that is coming home soon. Cheers!
