997 isn’t the Goldilocks I thought it would be

This thread and my morning coffee is one of the reasons I LOVE RL! OP, I've read through many of the comments from your post here. Great suggestions for sure. Feeling the 997 love this morning! I've never driven a base S .1. Maybe it is the wrong model? I loved the suggestion "making it your own", and the suggestion to "go track it"--if you enjoy spirited driving that is! If you don't then you definitely bought the wrong car! I've owned many air cooled 911's in my life-I still have one. Love it. However, my slightly modded, manual transmission 997.2 makes me giddy EVERY single time I start it, bring it to redline or rip through a corner fast or take it to a DE or skills day, or a group drive with other 997 enthusiasts. The minute I bought mine and drove it back 1200miles, the love affair started! My only other suggestion would be to start learning how to do basic maintenance on yours--if you don't now. They are engineered so well which makes them intuitive to wrench on I feel. Lots of online support here too. I get immense satisfaction marveling over it from under its skin. As weird as this sounds, I do feel more connected to my car by wrenching on it. That's it, I'm going for a drive right now!!

Very astute comment. The PDK gives the best of both worlds - manual type gear holds and great shift speed + auto shift cruise when desired. I drove several manual 911s before I drove my PDK - easy choice to go PDK. The only hesitation I have is the concerning repair costs. Additionally, almost all other sports cars and exotics have gone to dual clutch and it's not because they suck.

The PDK / Manual argument is a useless one as there are 3 groups... Die hard 3-pedal.Manual guys (like me) that like the sensory involvement of driving a manual and don't care if it's slower, manual guys that appreciate the attributes of the PDK.and have made the switch for whatever their reasons may be (new tech, faster shifts, traffic, health conditions, shaving tenths off a lap time, etc) and are happy with a two-pedal manual, and guys who have always been 2-pedal car guys whether a sequential manual or a torque converter automatic and buy whatever the current 2 pedal offering is.
