Default Thoughts On This Used Oil Analysis

I just got a used oil analysis after reading about them on this forum, and the results seem mixed.

2005 997.1 with 61k miles. IMS bearing was upgraded with an LN unit. AOS, clutch etc were done at the same time, around 15k ago.

The elevated copper and iron levels spook me a little, as does the lack of molybdenum despite using "Liqui-Moly Leichtlauf" 5w-40 for the last 6000 miles (3000 on each change, but did not do a UOA sample last time)
Is there anywhere other than bearings, that copper could come from? Does anyone know what Blackstone Lab's so called "Operational Factors" might contribute to this? The car is occasionally spiritedly driven in the canyons, and daily driven on the street, no track time.

It seems like the other UOA I have seen on the forum do not look like this. Copper is usually much lower.

So everyone else doesn't have to download it

Honestly, I'd change oils. I've seen a trend with this LM oil where it's producing higher than normal iron and copper than most other oils used in 997s and am not a fan. Put in Driven DT40 or Motul 8100 xcess and those numbers will get cut in half.

Agree with Pete.

And don't read into the commentary. It's fluff. Look at the data, compare it to the thousands here on RL.

My switch to DT40 made a big difference in every UOA I've done since switching from LM LF. Significantly higher moly and improvement in all the things I don't want to see.

Someone can correct me if I’m wrong, but I don’t believe the Liqui Moly oil itself has any more moly than the others. You’d need to buy the MoS2 additive.

That's correct - actually has less than some other, like Driven specifically, and that's one of the primary contributors to the low metal wear numbers with their oils. Other than cost and availability, there's really no reason to use anything else.

How about my new UOA? The engine is wrong, I have the 3.6 DFI.

Decent, but iron getting up there for only 3,500.miles. if you had run it to 5k miles, would be double digits, which is higher than what we see from DT40 or DI40.

Cool. Just switched to Driven Oil this last oil change, can’t wait to see the new results on the next oil change.

You'll see improvement in the next one but it will really show up in the one after that.

Looks very similar to mine (09 C2 93k with Motul + Ceratec) at 3,500 except your viscosities and flashpoint seem low.

Thank you all for the input. I suppose I will switch to the driven dt40 oil. A shame that I already put another round of liqui-moly in when I did the oil change / collected the sample for blackstone. Sounds like this will be a short oil change interval!

I will try and report back with results in 3000 miles or so...
