Default Looking for a camera to record spirited drives

What do you guys think. Just a dash cam? I was thinking about something that I could record ahead of me, maybe set it up to record from behind or even record someone following along. I used to have a camera that attached to a mount with suction cups but that was an 8mm. I'd like to try that again but in this day and age. Any ideas on what to get or the best way to go about it? TIA..

I've used a gopro suction mounted to glass on a few occasions - sometimes inside looking out the windshield, sometimes outside pointing forward or behind. I'd really like to try am insta360 camera!

I didn't see a price on the website. What is a reasonable offer?

They sell used on Ebay for $120-$199
When I have a part for sale I always cut fellow RL members a deal.

I have used an iPhone with the .5 wide angle setting to record some drives in Malibu Canyons, the ACH and Maricopa Highway 33.

With a 6MT, it severely limits shifting, since it's in your right hand...and I sacrifice some "spirit" by driving 10-15 mph slower. It's not so much driving one handed as being a bit of a distaction. You will need a fixed camera to record heel and toe downshifts and flat out runs requiring two hands!

I do like the ability to pan and point it in real time, vice a fixed mount that shows all road, or all interior and straight ahead only. There are thousands of YouTube videos out there using every combination of cameras. Once you go with more than one camera- it becomes an editing job...too much work for me.

Here's a sample video of hand-held iPhone 12 Pro at .5 lens setting:

Fun fact: In a 997.2 with 6MT, in second gear, the digital speedo and tach are perfectly synched: 45 mph = 4500 rpm, 60 mph = 6000 rpm. Accurate at every speed in 2nd. Cool.

And one recorded with an older iPhone 6S, wedged between the dash and windshield, just forward of the center speaker (obvious from the audio volume) with no wide angle lens:

BTW, Deer Creek Road is a profoundly scary drive with massive drop offs on the north side and few, if any, guardrails. Awesome views, which you won't be enjoying at pace.

OP, post a video with that set up, por favor.

I just viewed this driving video on BaT today.
Looks like it's a POV camera on a headband with decent view of road, dash and wheel.

He knows how to drive a 993. Best driving vid I've seen on BaT,

Viofo makes a 4K dash cam package that has 130 degree field, with 1080p rear cam with 140 degree field. Loops recordings on micro SD. Video quality of drives is great.
