Default Front Bumper Conversion Help

Hello,

Relative newb here. In the past I had a 1977 911S, and then a 1983 944. Some 45+ years later, I now have a 2010 (997.2) C4S with headlight washers and want to change the front bumper cover to a GT3 cover. There may be detailed info on the forums somewhere, but I've searched for hours and can't seem to locate what I need, at least for a 997.2. Even more confusing, is the Porsche parts online system. When I put my VIN in, I get a part number for the bumper cover. When I then put in a 2010 GT3 VIN, it comes back with the same part number! It's as if Porsche no longer makes the cover. If that's the case, what would one do if a GT3 needs a new cover?

I know there's no Porsche aero kit for the 997.2, but it seems that others have successfully converted. I'm not afraid of all of the things that need to be done to convert, but I need definitive data as to which parts I need to source.

Questions:
1. Can a GT3 bumper from a 997.1 be used? I've seen conflicting info on this.
2. Is there a go to aftermarket cover that is at least close to OEM quality?
3. Are there other options that achieve the look without specifically being OEM?

Thanks in advance for any guidance you can provide.

Regards,

Joe

Thanks for the quick response. Care to elaborate on where to buy, manufacturer, etc.?

I was researching the exact same conversion today on a 2009 C4S. I haven't called them yet but Pelican parts will be my first contact, Flat6 motors can also provide the components. I had a 2008 911S with the conversion completed when I purchased the car so I don't know the complete list of components required.

I forgot to say - the 997.2 Aerokit is also NLA. You can buy the front lip for $2000 still....

I've got one on my car but it would take $10k to pry it off my hands and go back to stock.

Thanks for the response. The Flat6 (NR Automotive) sems to be the right direction if I can't swap with OEM parts.

I didn't realize the aerokit fronts were as different as they are between the .1 and .2 aside from the lights. The .1 aero kit is actually much nicer and more aggressive looking IMO with the wider side air inlets and character lines. If the .1 version fits on a .2 by changing the front lights, that's the direction I'd go with the aftermarket turbo-style LED front lights. Side markers look the same shape, so no issue there and you can lwd those from eBay too with clear ones that flash amber.

When I picked up my 997.2, I was also disappointed with the lack of options to spice up the look of the standard front bumper.

Can't answer your question on 997.1 aero-kit compatibility on a .2.

All aftermarket bumpers I came across were fiberglass, which is not ideal for a front bumper as it is more easily cracked compared to the OEM poly bumper. Fitment also looked questionable on many of them.

As far as other options, the 997.2 GTS/aero-kit bumper is a nice choice if you can find one. Your best bet now is likely sourcing one on eBay and repairing & repainting if needed as I believe they are NLA from Porsche now. Ditto for an OEM GT3 bumper.

Splitter choices aren't that great, imo. The only one that didn't look out of place on the standard bumper was the Moshammer and the Werks1. Both are fairly expensive and the Werks1 is carbon fiber which is not great for where it sits.

In the end, I bought some Zunsport mesh grilles and modified my front bumper to get rid of the horizontal slats in the side intakes as I never loved the look of them. With the slats removed and the mesh in place, it gave off a subtle GT3 vibe. I liked the look enough that it held me over to not dump thousands into anything else. Pretty cheap too. Grilles were not that much and removing the front bumper and splitting the slats from the DRL light carriers was easy (there is a plastic frame which holds the DRL lights and the slats. I simply cut the slats from the frame, and reinstalled the DRL section). Zip tied the mesh in place and was good to go.

There are options, take a look below:
https://teile.com/en/porsche-parts-s...ts/AeroKit/212

and
https://teile.com/en/porsche-parts-s...ront-bumper/44

Some are still available.

Yes, 997.1 Aerokit (cheapest option) can be used, but the issue is the running lights/marker light. You will loose the LED but aftermarket is there. There is also some small changes within the bumper surround and plastic pieces (minor).

Additionally a lip spoiler and GT3 bumper vent can spruce the look as well. EMC2 sells a 12+ lip kit and conversion.

1) yes it can but will require .1 fogs, wireHarnesses and maybe even different internal air ducting shrouds. On top of this you will have a .2 rear + .1 front end. It will look very off.

2) unfortunately nope, most are fibreglass + very heavy and a major pita for the body shops.

3) you can get different front lips and or try to find a .2 gts front bumper (altho its very hard to find used)

To the OP, I feel your dilemma. I want a more aggressive front end, however don't want to spend a fortune and I commute about 200 miles a week or atrocious roads. Tons of debris, etc. So anything I do will get torn up.

So, I built my own aero kit. did the GT3 vent from Rennline, EMC2 adapters for the 991 sport spoiler, cause I like to pretend its a race car the dive planes and some carbon fender extenders on the front of the wheel arch.

Not everyone's taste, however relatively inexpensive, quick and so far really robust.
