Bore Scoring & extreme cold weather

LOL!!! I'm with you 100%. We're definitely brothers from another mother .
And..... Your wife has got a great set of wheels! I'm sure checking her for bore
scoring beats peering into spark plug holes any day of the week.
If you want a laugh you could check out Bimmerpost and go to the M2 Competiton
sub forum. I was checking out one of these truly great cars and asked if there
was a way to run a DME report for over-revs. One guy lit me up, saying
Porsche owners really earn their reputation. He turned out to be an OK guy,
but I felt like I was defending the guys on Rennlist and had to explain what an
over-rev report actually entailed. It turned out he was clueless in this regard
and offered some good advice, but it took some time.

[QUOTE=BillB128;18574533]Groove,
Thanks for the response, you're a kid at 63! I wish you many more years of Porsche enjoyment.
I've been on the boards since 2005/2006 when I bought my first Porsche which was a brand new
2007 987 Base Cayman. It was a hoot, but I eventually surrendered to the siren song of the 997,
and have loved every minute of my owner experience.
To me, owning these cars is all about the enjoyment, for some people that's hunting for their perfect
spec, cool by me. For other's it's detailing or modding the heck out of their rides, again, cool by me.
Others, still, love to get out and enjoy their cars no matter what the weather, to me that is super cool.
I am not quite that daring but like to think I'm pretty close. But in the end, I'm not going to tell someone how
to enjoy their 997...
OK, again, please don't take offense, because I can clearly see you're always trying to help a brother out,
but your "strong" opinions on bore scoring and are a little heavy handed at times, like when you ask someone
who's owned their car a while, "Have you had your car scoped" and when they reply no, you almost jump on
them (like above when you typed in Bold-Yeah, That's what I thought). To me that comes across as a
kind of in your face "Got Ya!/Caught You" tone, which I sure you don't intend.
^^I understand you finding my comments a bit abrupt or a got you caught sort of angle but that's really not what I meant to convey.
When someone states - "I have no signs of Bore Scoring", the only way that statement holds water is if you have had a Bore Scope Inspection. I meant no disrespect just wanted to find out if in fact the OP Scoped his engine and to see the photos.
nothing more nothing less. But again I can understand how I can come across heavy handed. Probably the frustration of finding really nice 997 examples which turned out to have scoring which is disappointing especially when you consider spending almost $1000 on each PPI/Bore Scope Inspections.
**More importantly, when it comes to new buyers posting on the 997 Forum, I'm trying to protect new buyers and probably my reason for the heavy Bore Scoring lectures and the importance of having them performed..
In any case I agree we are 997 Bro's and after all the Porsche's I have owned, the 997 is such a great combo of engineering/style/comfort and driveability.
I get it that I have strong opinions and never mean to offend anyone. I like to joke around and sometimes it's taken the wrong was so apologizing in advance for those future posts

You know another good thing is that Hartech from the UK (if you follow the various 997 engine rebuilder Facebook groups out there) has recently expanded his engine rebuild services and has partnered with a US and a Canadian shop so we’ll slowly start to see some competition to Jake/LN offerings, which can only be good for the 997 community as it will bring more competitive pricing options for anyone who ends up needing these services down the road. To me, it just never made sense that Hartech could offer approx $15K rebuilds vs the $30-40K it would be at Jake. I realize Jake’s offering replaces more, but not everyone necessarily wants that, so it’s good to have options. Now even if the Hartech stateside option runs into the $20-25K region, it’s still a good deal less for a decent fix.

Groove, Good to hear and I know where you're coming from. I think Rennlist is the best enthusiast forum going bar none, and not just for Porsches,
I'm talking all marks, though I might e a bit biased . I'm glad we're good. Believe me when I say I've seen a ton of your posts. You're always
trying to help out and it's something I appreciate
Over and out!
Bill.
