DJF1,

Remember, Aston Martin is run by Ulrich Bez, who was Porsche's R&D head during the period of the 993 development...

I think there will be a lot of 911 owners (price permitting) switching into the AM V8 - price point I heard is around 100K though...

I get a kick out of you guys/gals....but, rather than speak for myself, i'll try to express what my brother, who's been driving porsches for almost 40 years, would say:

It's a shame how so many Porsche owner's these days are not real Porsche owners. Not only do they not drive or learn to drive their cars like a real Porsche driver, but they are so quick to jump ship to another car manufacturer. A real Porsche enthusiast is Porsche to the core.

I think Porsche likes its current financial condition a lot better than its previous state. That being said, plastic certainly helps them maintain their margins.

It's called loyalty, but your brother has it backwards. Porsche owes it to us, and not us to them. Porsche exists because we buy their cars, if they went out of business today we would still be here.

Why on earth do so many people go on about cup holders???? I'd love to see Porsche drop them completely. Ugly thing and very un-Porsche.

Remember this is a 911

Mike in O.C.

I agree completely...Porsche owes loyalty to us. Margins or not, they only exist today because of the loyalists that kept Porsche alive before they jumped on the SUV and blonde convertible market.

Now, they probably don't need us loyalists...Shame.

My brother still drives a 356. He loves smelling gasoline while he drives..ha ha...I just hope that after 40 years of driving a Porsche, I can have as much pride in being a Porsche owner as he is.

That phone and huge center console with sat navigatin display (I'm sure you can watch DVD's also), phone buttons etc. says "pimp" out loud.

There's just nothing that say "sportscar" or "motorsport" in that interior, it's all plush, comfortable & bling. Even the five gauges don't look right in there.

I like the exterior much more than what 996 looks, although I'd lower the rear lights a little.
I posted this pic on 993 forum where I've "lowered" the car and moved the tail lights little lower.

Curious as to what is the definition of a "real Porsche" driver?

I certainly don't believe in blind loyalty to any company that is out to make a buck by producing an inferior product in my view. I've been waiting six or seven years, is that too soon to jump ship?

I actually LIKE the interior. I believe it lines have much more classic appearance than the 996/boxster. Weisaach posted some comparisons to the 911 interior (similar from 1964-1998) and 997 flows much more like that traditional ones. Two things I don't like. Clock on top of the dash and the huge Nav screen. Dump both are like much better. I do thing you can rotate the clock out of the way.

As for materials it is had to properly judge materials in photos. You need to touch/feel them to really determine.
