Huge improvement over 996 interior! It's about time!! 90k$ for a car with fit and finish significantly inferior to a $16k Toyota was getting very old. Red exterior shots look pretty sweet. Steering wheel not so hot, clock atop dash a little odd...

I have to say, I strongly dislike the new 997 interior. I was keen to get the 997, but a lot of the new design looks tacky and un-Teutonic. One of the biggest weaknesses of most Japanese cars (including Lexus & Infiniti) are their tacky interiors. I would say the 997 interior is closer to Japanese car look than German
Dislikes:
- Clock (gauge?) in dash center, sitting like a **** on a rock
- Angular design of door pulls/door bin - bin looks smaller than on 996, and lots of intersecting lines. Door pull looks cheap
- Fussy steering wheel with 50s (60s?) center
- Looks like the interior of a $25K Japanese car
Likes:
- Better integrated center dash (i.e. nav, stereo, etc)
- Materials look better quality
Summary:
- I feel the 996 has a sportier looking interior. While the oval theme was a dated 90s look, surely there was a cleaner design available. That clock is a disaster.
I think Porsche will continue to suck wind on their sports cars at this rate. I thought a 997 would be in my future, but I am now probably leaning toward the Aston Martin V8, as developed by ex-Porsche Ulrich Bez, who has the 911 in his sights....

Burning Brakes
You might want to check out Rennteam...the comments suggest the "clock" is not a chronological device...in any event by Tuesday all will be clear.

You never know until you see in person. But just judging from the pictures, the front nose seems shorter than previous models. Almost like a VW. : confused
For the wheels, may be some additional business for refinishers for curb rash.
Just hope they fixed the RMS problems. Found this link on the 996 board.
Agree with Tour 18, the 993 seems to be the classic.

Looks too squared off or something. The door handles and everything are really square and not as sleek. I have to agree, that the new interior looks too much like a sedan interior. Maybe it's just the colour...

What is going on at Porsche!?
- The dash mounted device almost ruins the whole car! What an eyesore.
- The steering wheel would be in the bin within 30 seconds if I bought the car,
- The rest is tacky and cheap looking overall. I hope they won't all come with those plasticky silver details
Oh well, that gives us plenty to mod.

I posted a few weeks ago that I was beginning to like the looks of the new body style. And I still feel that way. But the interior is a huge disappointment to me. If it weren't for the crest on the steering wheel, I would have guessed I was looking at some new Infiniti sedan. I think Porsche missed the mark on this interior design. Steering wheel has got to go.
But that's ok guys and girls - I'm gonna keep my 993 for awhile.
Take care all,
chuck
