Curious to hear about what other cars 977 owners have in their garage. There are those who own cars for investment reasons and then there are those who have “stories” behind the cars they own & drive. Care to share your stories?

What was the inspiration or influence as to why you bought your 997? Is it your DD?

What other vehicles do you own, if any ( the wife’s suv doesn’t count ) and what is the story behind them?

In 1984 I got a chance to drive a 1983 911 Cabriolet ( first year it was ever offered ) and I was smitten. So far out of my reach, I did vow to myself that if I was ever in a position to do so, I was going to own a version of the Cabriolet. Fast forward 38 years and the moment arrived. The search started over a year ago and my target was a 997.1 as there was a budget here. I did not want a black interior, so the field was narrowed significantly. .2’s are a little rich for my wallet, so when an ’08 Ruby red, 6MT with a sand beige full leather interior with only 38,000 miles on came up, it came home with me. It is not my DD as I live in an area that is laced with salt from November to March. Currently tucked away in the garage, I smile every time I walk by it, almost as much as when I drive it!

It does not sit alone in the garage, as it has a soul mate; a 2008 Monaco Blue BMW 535xi Touring, 6MT with a Brown leather interior. I have been in love with Wagons all my life. I owned 2 Volvo 740 5MT Turbo Wagons, a Volvo V70 R as well as as Volvo V70 2.5 AWD. The later 2 had auto boxes and I really missed the manual tranny. Like the Porsche, I had always lusted after the 5 Series Bimmer with the 6MT. However, the cost new was beyond my reach. Little did I know that 6 years ago when I found a near mint one in my favourite colour combo, I was purchasing 1 of only 32 6MT 5 Series Wagons sold in Canada between ’08 to ’10 when BMW discontinued bringing the 5 series wagon to North America.

I have learned to never say never, but I cannot see myself parting with either of these vehicles. With the purchase of the Porsche, I am no longer looking for any more vehicles. Both cars put a huge smile on my face whenever I drive them. I don’t take them to cars & coffee, not into that scene. I simply love working my way through the gear box, both up and down. Nothing stirs the soul as much as a perfect downshift . They both pull…..HARD ( the bimmer has a Cobb 1 tune on it) I just love to drive them both!

btw, the DD is a 2014 Mercedes E350 4MATIC Wagon, purchased used in 2018.

My wife drives a 2018 VW Golf SportWagon 6MT with an APR tune on it. She won’t let me have too often. ;-)

‘10 997.2
‘87 911 (in another garage)
‘03 540i myself and two close friends own
’23 Macan T (wife’s)

I’ve owned newer and nicer Porsche stuff. I can’t get away from 997.2’s or my ‘87. Two cars I could truly never sell. New Macan, I could careless about. That being said it is pretty nice! The 540I is going to continue to create killer memories with friends, so another never sell.

I’m not a material guy, just let the memories/experiences that these cars help facilitate.

Daily Driver: XC60 T6 R-Design

Wife has an XC90 Inscription

Volvos for everyday, 997s for fun.

I have had a lot of cars.....I always go back to Porsche and Volvo it seems. Big Wagon fan also, a few Polestar V60 wagons, an 850R Wagon and two V70 T5 wagons in manual.

2008 997.1 C2S is one of 3 cars I own. The other two are a 2016 MB E400 wagon and a 2020 Ford F-150. I’m of the opinion those three vehicles best cover the spectrum of the current automotive universe - at least for my needs.

Odd abundance of Volvos in this thread so far…

We just added our second Volvo (XC90 R Design) to the XC60 we have.

Few other sports cars in addition to the 997.2 c4s 6speed. None as comfy as the Volvos lol.

I picked up my 997.2 in Sep ‘20 because I wanted a fun car my wife and young daughter could ride in, and the Cayman I had couldn’t do that.

Besides the 911, I also have a dual pulley 6MT Audi S5 coupe and an E82 128i 6MT m-sport. The Audi has now replaced the 911 as the “fun” family road trip car. The 1er is my DD car. Wife has an X3.

I’ve moved the 911 down a more sporty road over the last year (suspension, loud exhaust), so the wife and daughter no longer ride in it. The Audi is a damn fine GT car, and the 1er is just the most charming little car you could imagine. Thinking about selling the Audi soon and picking up another E92 M3 because I miss that heavenly S65 engine.

I’d only sell the 911 for another P car, likely a 981 GT4 or 718 GTS or GT4.

not really a "collection" per say, but I do have another cool car and bike in the garage with the 997.

The mr2 was the first car I ever learned how to drive a manual on, it was a 91 NA. This one is a manual 93 turbo. Fun little car, fairly rare to see at most car events.

This is my 3rd 997, first PDK...loving the PDK so far, always told myself I wouldn't by a PDK, but I got it so my dad who is almost 70 could drive it around whenever he wanted.

I've had too many to count but was very involved in 356 world 30 years ago. Many early 911's, 911S.s, 911SC's, 964, 993's.
My favorite was my 1959 Super Sunroof. Restored it in 1993.

Living in Colorado and actively ski racing, I've been driving Audi Quattro's for the past 35 years (4000SQ, 200TQ, urS4, urQuattro, S8, W12 A8L, A4, A6, S5) and got into P-car ownership w/ a '93 968 cab. Upgraded the cab to a 996 cab, then sold it to get a Panamera twin turbo. Last year I picked up an '06 997 cab 6-speed w/ 9k miles on the clock and completed a series of shifter upgrades. I love driving the car so much that the PTT is only driven long distances and to our mountain home. It's difficult to imagine ever parting ways w/ this car, hoping to teach my grandkids to drive a manual in this car. A Hummer H2 for hauling the dirt bikes and jet boat, MB E400 wagon for the wife and a KTM Supermoto rounds out the current fleet.

I wish there was an easy way to upload pics from my iPhone but this platform doesn't support it

I sold my 991S and Cayenne and went backwards to an 08 C2S which I really like. I drove a 996 for 15 years and 140k miles so makes sense, absolutely hated the comfort level of the 991. Now have along with my 08, a 91 turbo(14 years) to the grave....., 66 Corvette 427/425 rat motor and my race car a 69 BP Vette plus daily drivers.

Two 911’s, but I’ve always been a VW guy with a weakness for Sciroccos. Sig tells my current inventory.

The BMW has the best story. Was sitting on a friend’s used car lot. Drove it for fun. Liked it. Moved on, and someone else bought it. I remarked to him that I should have bought it. Three years later he calls and tells me that he thinks he can buy it back. Done. Mine now.

997 was dropped with a skip at idle for me to “take a look at”. I rebuilt the engine and never gave it back.

Acty was bought on a whim. I drive it more than anything else. NC Miata is #2.
