Default Broken Muffler Bracket Bolt (the long one!)

Hi all, while removing mufflers to access Coils and Sparkplugs, I broke the long bolt (#24) that holds the muffler to the bracket.

Has anyone replaced this bolt with an hardware store equivalent?

If so, what’s the size?

You can literally use any bolt/ nut that’s long enough there. You’ll struggle to find a metric equivalent at a local hardware store so unless you order oe i would just go English. I personally would order the right bolt but sounds like you just want to get it together and either will work the same

Also next time just take the 3 bolts off the bracket to hanger and bring the whole bracket with the mufflers.

if you undo the bumper supports you can get the mufflers off without removing the bumper.

I cut the heads off mine so I could reinstall the new bolts from the bottom and put the nut in top. Used a long 1/4" standard thread stainless bolt I could find locally.

If you can't find one, go to the metal by the piece area at Lowe's and you can buy a continuously threaded 1/4" rod. Get two fender washers and 2 lock nuts the same size, cut the rod the length it needs to be and make your own long fastener.

I believe I have an M8 threaded rod in my shop. I had already thought of doing this.

Crazy how quick some stuff gets corroded. My vehicle is 16 years old and the amount of bolts that have sheared in two is crazy.

I have a 1962 Toyota whose bolts backed right out with a little Kroil bath.

I used a Home Depot bolt and slathered it with high temp marine grade anti seize, Loctite LB 8023

Its good for up to 2,400F and comes in a bottle with a brush.

When I am in there or below the car I will reapply the bolts I can see.

I had issues with my center muffler bolts so I tend to overdue it now.
