Default How to wrap a porsche part in leather

I am no expert, but I have found that covering many Porsche 997 interior parts in leather or alcantara can be done at home. Below is an illustration demonstrating how to wrap your door end cap in leather. Joe

Start with a piece of leather bigger than the door cap. Rough up the door cap with some sandpaper

After putting glue on both surfaces, put leather on door cap making sure you have a rim of leather surrounding the entire cap. Draw a line about 5mm around the end cap (see white line)

Trim the leather along the line you drew.

Use your fingers to mold the leather onto the door cap. You may need to add more glue. Take you time and smooth out all edges. Enjoy your leather end caps.

The beauty of the OEM Leather is the stitching on the edges.

True but many OEM leather interior parts do not have stitching. EG: Glove box door, door trapezoid, fuse panel cover, center console shift trim bezel, dash trim pieces, driver side kick panel, light switch bezel and so on. JOE

Do you source the leather from anywhere in particular? What type of glue do you use? Xacto knife to cut the leather down?

the factory shaves the leather so its thin and it can be wrapped around smaller objects, and it makes a better job

yes for some parts I have them thin it out but for others no because the thin leather can tear easy and shows every little defect in the plastic.

I don’t use a steamer. I never found it to help very much. I have been using a leather softener and that works really well.

This one is difficult. if you try it I recommend you use an oversized piece of leather.
