Default Have you installed a Suncoast Hood protector? - too heavy? Struts old?

Has anyone installed this hood protector from Suncoast?

I have, and my hood now won't hold up on the stuts.
I have to use one hand to hold the hood up which is a pain. You can't just open the frunk and use two hands to put your luggage in and out.
Is it just that my struts have lost their holding strength, or is this a known issue?

Yep. Refresh the struts and you will be fine.

Thanks!

…there’s a lot of alternative struts out there…did you go OEM or another? There’s a big price difference.

Any recommendations for struts that will support?

I've gone with the picture attached for my car as well as friends. They work very well.

Das Shild was the original hood protector from years ago.
had one on my 06 and transferred it to my 09.
not significantly heavy, no stronger supports needed.

O’reilly is a good place to pickup Stabilus at a good price. They probably won’t have in stock but the ones I ordered for the 911 and the incredibly hard to find e92 m3 hood ones were there next day after ordering online. The BMW ones were ~ 25% of the price and looked identical minus the BMW logo. I believe they oem to many manufacturers.

Buy these Strongarm 4031s from Auto Zone or Advance - whichever sells this brand. They're guaranteed for life, stronger (higher pressure than stock) and will hold the hood with the Das Shield protector installed (which is the company that makes that part Suncoast sells).

Have these on both my 997s with the hood protector. Not only protects the aluminum hood from damage when full but cleans up the look when it's open. Could even throw a vinyl Porsche crest on it - maybe I'll have the wife cut a RUF logo for me with her Silhouette for under there now that I'm thinking about it as we made the Porsche crest I used on the Cayenne under hood heat shield I fabricated for that build.

Thanks everyone. .I bought the stabilizer replacement struts…I don’t mind paying $45 for OEM versus the $25 or so for the Walmart part…
