Of course this is what all PDK owners preach

Yes that is correct. Only Manual Transmission owners are considered true enthusiasts.
Most PDK owners bought them for their wife.

Troublemaker! lol

I have an 09 PDK and my car has been trouble free as far as engine and trans for my entire 25k of ownership. I rowed gears for 30 years and love a manual, but for this car I would buy another PDK. That transmission is brilliant! Like driving an F1 car. Love it!

Like music, to each his own.
If I was battling traffic everyday I could see possibly having a PDK.
However 100% of my P-car driving is for fun/pleasure and IMO being totally engaged in driving/shifting using clutch with Manual Transmission is the only way to go.

The manual has the go kart feel I desired and one less thing to break. A win win in my book. If I had to daily it, PDK with warranty would have been my route. Plus a lot of us bought these a while ago, when I got mine it was maybe a 5K difference between the manual and the PDK. This was before the 991 guys got priced out of the 992 and the 997 guys got priced out of a 991 upgrade/trade in wise in recent years. the 997.2 is a fantastic car but people where sleeping on them a bit with the value for money comparison. To each their own I guess. Who blew up a manual transmission? I've been reading here for some time and I don't think I recall hearing a single MT getting rebuilt. "Peace of mind is priceless" at least in my head it is.

@keperkey I have over 80k miles on my 09 C2 PDK and even though my daily driver (Panamera Turbo) is a blast to drive & much more powerful, the 997.2 still wins every time in terms of driver feedback, sensation, reward, thrills, engagement etc..
If you find a good one, don't hesitate .

They have a low failure rate, but when they do, some things can be repaired by sensor replacement while others require complete transmission replacement. I personally have no interest in a 2-pedal 911, but that's a different discussion. If you've decided that's what you want, then the PDK is the bettwr driving transmission vs the previous generation Tiptronic, though the Tip has fewer problems.
Good point. The replacement PDK I got on the -09 C4S shifted completely different from the one that failed. Some call it smoother. I call it lazier and tired even in sport or sport plus mode. Strangely, the original -11 GTS PDK shifted very much like the original -09 C4S and so did the replacement unit I got for the -11.

So it almost seems like they just pull rebuilt units from a shelf when one is needed. Some appear to have the software upgrade while others don't. Absolutely no comparison between the "upgraded" replacement PDK I got for the -09 and the one I got for the -11. What I can't understand though is why my -11 GTS shifted just like the -09 C4S out of the factory which was long after the software upgrade had been rolled out. To the best of my knowledge the GTS got the same PDK as all other -11 997's.

I have no idea what the explanation is other than the techs rebuilding these things in Germany sometimes forget to do the software update.

however, they no longer offer a warranty for cars over 10 years old.

I wanted to up date mine, which, runs out this September, and I couldn’t.

I renewed my Fidelity policy with him recently and he said he could renew with Fidelity again up until end of 2023. End of 2023 would make my car 12 years old.

Interesting since it also means that most Ferrari, Lambo, Bugatti, McLaren and other exotic owners bought their cars for their wives . Manuals have not been available for years for either brand no matter how deep your pockets. They all just stopped producing manual cars for lack of demand. Dual clutch only.

This is actually true for me because my wife refuses to learn manual and I daily mine - only have two cars between the two of us, so having a car she couldn’t drive in a pinch was a nonstarter.

kinda wanted MT but I’m just gonna buy a second car instead so I can scratch the itch. That’ll show her.

my mother has had an 09 C4s for probably 5 years now and that transmission is hot garbage. I know everyone will tell me something is wrong with it, but it doesn't seem to throw any codes or show any other indication of failure, and yet it drives like crap. I'd spend some time driving whatever example you're looking to get as it could be disappointing

'09 PDK here. I've put 24K of the 54K miles on it since 2014. Fluid change in 2018 because 10-years. No issues.

Nope - I bought my 1979 Ferrari GTSI for me and it is Manual Transmission

Understanding that the quote is tongue in cheek, but would it save Groovzilla a few thousand posts if there was a sticky saying that he thinks manual transmissions are the only reasonable option?
