I will be there with my wife. Driving in from CLT. We usually have a good number of cars caravan in together with some fun driving along the way. This will be the 4th time attending the rally and it is an absolute blast! Very well organized by Josh and team. As much fun as the driving is, it's really all about the people you will meet. We have made life long friends from our time there. The fact you are driving some of the best roads in the country is a pretty nice sweetener.
I will say that if you have not done this event before, be aware this is pretty intense in both the spirited and touring groups. If you are not comfortable with pushing pretty hard start out in the cruising group on the first day to get a feel for the pace. Hope to see you there!!

I should also add that having a free download of all of the Killboy.com photos at the end of the event is pretty sweet as well. They take some really great shots throughout the event and offer discounts to have metallic prints done. Nice addition to the office or garage.

I'd really like to join this year but have to work out some logistics. Let's keep this going...

What group do you run?
also, how do they get away with running that fast and not get tickets from the cops/rangers? Does the event planner have a deal cut with them? Maybe that is something that isn’t talked about… just wondered.

I run the touring most of the time. When I first brought my wife we started in cruising so that she could get accustomed to what these cars are capable of, and by day two we switched to touring. They are very flexible if you do want to make a change in what group you are running and you can even switch midday if wanted.
In regards to your second question, I am going to avoid answering here. I will say that they have a strong focus on safety and have put in place some very effective methods of communicating through the groups during the day.
Where will you be driving in from?

This entire area is so many great roads, if you want to do your "Own Thing"...
I would highly suggest saving time for driving 441 through SMNP from Galtinburg to Cherokee or Vice Versa. You would drive this for the scenery, not for letting loose, as the park speed limit is 35 mph ish. But its just gorgeous.
Another great drive with long sweepers and great landscape is the Cherohola Parkway to Tellico Plains and back, just stunning scenery and speeds here can be manipulated with a radar detector.
If coming from the East, take the Blue Ridge Parkway from Ashveville to Bryson City IMO, a gorgeous drive, but speed limit is 45, so 55 max...
I actually have meeting in Knoxville all day on Thursday Oct 20th, so I may stop on way back on the way to Raleigh NC...will probably stay in Cherokee with the Harrahs Casino and then hit the road on Friday.
I have done the Tail of The Dragon on motorcycles and sports cars over the years, and just took my new to me 997 on it at 730AM on weekday morning a month ago, was bliss, otherwise, lots of yahoos on everything from 3 wheeled Harleys to jeeps pulling a boat/jet ski, so lot of BS between 9-5 FYI. Keep eyes peeled for the sport bikes that pass at all chances on double yellows, as they buzz thru here with ease...
Fontana Resort is very nice, as is that area, consider a AirBNB cabin in area too...its all good.
