Default Help Me Find This Senor in the Engine

Greetings,

I recently posted about my deck fan and member AnthonyK was kind enough of to post a photo of the location of the engine bay temperature sensor he found loose, but I can't seem to find it or the senor. Mine is a 997.2 / 3.6.

I looked in the right side of the engine (looking into it from the rear) between the 4 and 5 intakes and found a circular mount, BUT if this it the correct location, I can't find the sensor anywhere! I know what the sensor looks like but I can't find it or any loose cable.

Any help on where I can find this sensor is appreciated!

Thanks.

I don't think the above photo is the correct location of this sensor based on photos of the 977.2 / 3.6 engine.

Any help is appreciated!

look down onto the engine. Get a mirror. That sensor should sit between the plenums and not touch anything. If it falls out of the rubber grommet it is pushed into, it will fall onto the block, which stays hot longer, and will keep the fan running long after you turn off the car. The fan will eventually stop, I think it times out at 10 minutes or so regardless of the temperature.

Mine’s a 997.1 C2, so the wiring might be different. On mine, there’s a wiring bundle that runs along the passenger side intakes, and the sensor lead comes out of there. Here’s a pic showing the wire leading to mine. (I replaced the grommet and remounted it yesterday.)

I found it by pulling on random wires until something moved more than it should have. It was deep down in there.

Thanks anthonyk. Yeah, I pulled on some of the wires down there but didn't want to pull too much. There seems to be a few photos online of the 997.1 engines (even a video) but none for the 997.2, although it is probably located in a similar area. I guess I have to pull the intake air box to get more room to find this sensor. There is a similar sensor on the driver's side of the engine between intakes of the 2 and 3 cylinders, but more posts are pointing to the passenger side of the engine between 4 and 5.

That said, good job on the grommet replacement. Hope your fan works as it should!

If you can be more specific on the location of this sensor on a 997.2 I appreciated it. TY

I'm 99% sure there was an identical (empty) mounting ring over on the driver's side in the same spot on my car. I spent some time hunting for the sensor over there before reading about the location between 4 and 5, and finding it. Maybe you've already found yours?

on the 997.1, C2, it is on the right side, between the first 2 plenums you see.

I asked the same question already in several threads and nobody seems to know the answer. It is definitely NOT the same for 997.1 and 997.2

Yeah, I can't seem to find it in the 4 and 5 banks. I can't get a shop photo of where the sensor part is located - although AnthonyK's part number for the sensor fits the 997.2. But, I think someone did a post about a 991 fan, wherein they had the sensors on the passenger side of the engine too. I'm baffled. Someone please help - the fan is bothering me. LOL.
