Default Key stuck in ignition

Hi. My '06 997.1 battery died while the key was in the ignition. I replaced the car battery and car runs fine but when I turn it off, the ignition doesn't release the key.

I popped off the tiny ignition cover and pressed the release button (heard the typical release 'click') and was able to remove the key. Locked the car using the remote, unlocked, started, drove, stopped, turned off, stuck in the ignition again!

Any ideas? Thanks!

This happened to me but the issue resolved once I charged the battery.

Switch is fried. Happened to me, replaced switch and all is well again. 15 minute job, $250, small hands recommended. Make sure you get the part made in Spain, as that is the updated version. The Australian one is known to fail sporadically for no reason.

Same situation on 2012 997.2. Battery went dead, key locked in. Removed the manual way, replaced battery. Key now has to be removed manually each time it is inserted. No other issues.

Is this the part number needed?
