Question Old radio question

Hi all,

My new-to-me 997 has a fantastic aftermarket radio & amp, couldn’t be happier.

I suspect however that the passenger door lock preference was left in place when the previous owner had the new radio installed.

I received the original radio and amp from the previous owner and was considering trying to reconnect to access that door lock setting.

Is anyone familiar with the PCM behavior upon replacement? Will it work for me without the original amp & other items down the line connected?
I’m hoping the computer will still let me get to the preferences without locking up in a self-check

Any tips or input would be greatly appreciated!

I have never heard of that issue. So the issue is that the pass door is locked and you can't unlock it? Why do you think the PCCM controls this. I have a 997.2 with an aftermarket radio (other owner installed) and the lock door is the button in the center vent area. I not say you are incorrect just to me seems odd that the PCCM would be linked to door locks.

My question specifically is with regard to the lock behavior in response to the fob.

In the Porsche PCM you have the ability to set your Lock preferences under Individual Memory, including how the passenger door responds to the key fob, designating whether both doors unlock together or only the driver’s door unlock.

I am looking to see if anyone has experience retrofitting their aftermarket radio by replacing the PCM & if it will be responsive or require more extensive work to regain this programming function.

Thanks for that info, did not know that. If the PCM controls that feature, meaning that you set the preference and it stores internally after removal of the PCM that should be gone, but it is not. That make me think it is stored somewhere else in the car and the PCM was just the interface to set it. If that is the case maybe you don't need to do the radio swap just take it to a dealer to reset of maybe software and link to the car data port. If I had to guess it is not stored in the FOB itself.

**I had similar situation with my previous 2007 997S. When the aftermarket Kenwood PCM/radio & backup camera was installed by previous owner, the HVAC Fan was in the on position and up to the 5th or 6th setting.
So everything i started the car the fan was blowing hard.
I was told in order to reset the computer so fan would remain off when starting, I would have to remove and re-install the Kenwood PCM unit.
I never did and just left it - Wasn't that big a deal.

Thank your for the feedback @groovzilla - it’s good to know it’s not my imagination. A visit to the dealership Tuesday is already scheduled to tend to some items agreed on in the sale so I’ll discuss with the service writer.

cheers

It is super easy to take out the head unit. Since you have the original, why not give it a try yourself and save yourself $300 labor. There are 2 rectangular plugs, one MOST, one antenna. You just need to plug the two rectangular ones in and turn it on, change the door locking/unlocking setting, test it to verify it works and you are done.

I hope someone else can confirm this: You need to have the Sport Chrono option in order to have access to the individual locking options via the PCM. Otherwise it is a dealer activity only. Hate to see you change out the head unit to find out you can't make the edits to the lock behavior.

check out the foxwell / durametric threads. i have a feeling you can also change the settings you mention directly via durametric pro/foxwell 530 via direct coding. the dealer piwis will likely do the same

Those changes are not also available in the in-dash chrono controls? There are quite a few settings in there as well. Unfortunately door locks may or may not be on that list. But there are quite a few menus.
