Not American, but E39 M5, or if you want something newer E90 M3.

Sometimes daily for work, just nothing like it.....
Come on show us more pics of it. I had a '71 spit bumper SS396 (402) turbo 400 in my late teens/early twenties. It was fun, but you gotta watch over revving those big blocks...

I've got a Grand Wagoneer with the AMC 360, does that count?

Ford 302 is about as American as it gets right? Just about as far to the other end of the performance spectrum as you can get - but the smiles are the same.

This was my Bronco. I replaced the 302 with 351 bored and stroked to 409. Upgrades included ECU from fox mustang, lighting intake, fuel injection, ford tarus fan, and aluminum radiator. It was stupid fast and slight throttle touch broke the tear tires. I wish I still had it. Other cars included a red and 1970 Chevelle SS numbers matching drive train. I took first place at every show I took it to. I also did a subframe restoration of a 1968 Camaro RS. Also owned three Early 90’s Mercedes E500’s. Everything had to go when I moved to Washington due no place store them.

I'll echo some of the other 5.0 V8 muscle suggestions--928, E39 M5, & IS F offer a lot of the positives of a Mustang but without the size and weight penalties.

I had a '13 Mustang GT (Premium, Track Pack), overlap for about a year at the same time as my 997 C4S. Yes, the MT82 is a PITA, but it's a reliable transmission. Just in general, my Mustang was insanely reliable: took it from ~40k miles to ~85k miles over 7 years and never needed anything but brake pads, oil changes, tires, and gas - and trust me I was NOT easy on it, tons of autox and WOT. I mostly loved it, but don't see myself getting another one anytime soon - the Coyote is an incredible motor and makes the car, character in buckets - it feels powerful down low but still screams to redline. The '13-'14 styling is my favorite of any generation ever too. All pony cars still drive "big" which can be fun but only to a point for me, I found myself not choosing it when the weather wasn't great since it wasn't fun, and not choosing it over my 997 on nice days either because the 997 was just more enjoyable. So it was reserved for when I wanted to go sideways and make a lot of noise which isn't that often anymore. Not to mention, I had a really mint one, but I couldn't replace it if I tried because 99% of them were owned like they were disposable. Still, in order of my recent cars I've owned it's just behind my 997:

#1 997 C4S#2 '13 Mustang GT#3 987 Cayman#4 BMW 535xi wagon (stick)
#5 '18 WRX (making 300whp)

2021 GT premium, 5.0L Coyote with MT82.
It is completely different approach to performance compared to 997.
Car is much bigger and heavier than 997. The V8 sound in Track mode is awesome.
Latest iteration of MT82 (D4) is pretty good, way better than the older versions. Much improved compared to 2018 model I had.

Could not agree more. I am on my 6th one with the addition of that GT500 pictured above. These versions look like the great 67- 70 versions, but fully modern (minus the IRS of course). A also had a 2012 Boss 302 Laguna Seca a couple years back. An epic car by any measure and why I sold it is still a mental mystery. Get a Boss, then never sell it!

I have always been a Chevy guy since I was a teenager. I've owned a Camaro, 3 Monte Carlo's ('77, '83, '85SS), a '67Chevelle as well a few unmentionable's. My favorite was the '85SS I owned in my early twenties and eventually built a very nice small block (about 400hp) and put that in there for a while. Eventually I pulled the engine and sold the roller to a friend of mine and kept the engine in the corner of the garage to find another toy to put it in some day.

The same time I owned the Camaro, in my late teens, I worked at a high end body/detail/race shop in the early 90's. Being 18 years old around Porsche's, Ferrari's, etc. I got a taste of the good life. Someday i would get a car like that. Fast forward to today, that old small block is still sitting there and I don't see myself ever doing anything with it. My teenage son isn't interested in it so I figure I'll end up selling it. Makes me sad really, I put a lot of time, effort and expense in that motor but it's been sitting. 4 bolt main, Dart 202 heads, good high lift cam, and a Holley carb, man that thing was a runner.

I think i have moved on from my Chevy's and now have 2 Porsche's. Maybe my son will come around and do something with it some day.
