New stone guard

Porsche paint is comparatively soft. I would recommend that you proceed very carefully.
I would definitely not use a heat gun.
Your best option (as has been mentioned earlier in this thread) is to use a steamer. And when you are removing the old stone guard as you apply the steam, don't pull the stone guard material away from the car at a 90-degree angle (pulling out).
Pull it slowly down as close to parallel with the panel as you can.
Good luck with the process.

I used the steamer method to remove mine and they came off easily in about 20 minutes for both of them. Mine were not as cracked and dry as yours though. YMMV. Steamer is the way. The trick is to steam where you are stretching and you don't pull the vinyl away from the paint, you stretch the material and let it release from the paint. Think of it like removing one of those adhesive wall hangers where you pull the tab straight down and stretch the adhesive strip to remove it from the wall. Use a plastic panel tool on one corner (I started at the top becaue I polished after) to get started then only pulling. Using a vice grip with a couple wood blocks to grip the vinly will save your hands from the constant effort of pulling. Frankly I was surprised at how easily they came off.

Where's the best place to get the magnetic guards? Searching the forums, many use http://magnagrafik.com/, but sounds like the owner is ill with Covid and the guards are a bit smaller than the factory ones. Is there a better, newer source for these?

I paid the detailer to remove/install mine during a thorough detail.
$100.
Figured they had the proper equipment and experience. Plus if anything happened to the paint, they could deal with that too.

There's a ton of threads on this...with a mix of good/ bad experiences using either a hairdryer or a heat gun (use a hair dryer if you are not experienced with the heat gun).
I had a paint & body repair shop replace mine for $245 as I recall (included OEM stone guards) and well worth it. https://rennlist.com/forums/showthre...6#post16505456

Magnagrafik's catalog has two stoneguards for the 997. The ones on my 997.2 look more like the 'speedster' one which I didn't expect. I thought the other stoneguards that fit 993,996, and 997 would be more 'common'. All of the stoneguard pics in this thread look to be the 'speedster' version - is that the right style to get or am I missing something? Below are pics of my stoneguards and the ones in the catalog.
Tried calling/emailing Magnagrafik but no reply; their mailbox is full.

When I installed my set of Magnagrafiks, they looked to be approximately the same size/shape as the stock clear ones (maybe a tad smaller).

The black should be a way longer lasting material. I think it's pvc vinyl as opposed to the less versatile plastic in the clear ones.

Three Wheelin'
I got the carbon fiber, they fit over 997.2 existing film perfectly. Don’t know if speedster fits the same.

The material can be whatever you want. Most high end shops have computer cut templates. I had them extend mine all the way down to the skirts for better protection and thats how the 930 turbo was when stone guards were invented. Looks great in person. I'm doing a retro kinda theme with mine. I'll probably go white skirts later in the year.

I'd find the best paint protection film shop in your area and have them remove them for you. They should remove them with steam. There is always the risk of pulling paint but on original paint that risk is minimized.
