I may be able to offer a slightly different perspective. I ran into almost the identical situation when I was looking for my Porsche a few years back. I found one at a high end Aston Martin dealer in the next state over, and drove up to see it. The dealer also carried some select used cars ( Ferrari, jaguar, etc ) , including some very expensive classic models. I loved the car, but wasn't comfortable evaluating from a technical standpoint. After I decided it might be the perfect car for me, I advised them I wanted to have an independent PPI done. They were very cooperative , but stated their policy that they don't allow the vehicles to leave the dealership . Since they deal with very expensive cars ( my Porsche may have been the cheapest in the showroom ) , it kind of made sense that they don't want to lose control of a specialty car by having someone they don't know working on it, and possibly messing something up.

They indicated I could bring someone in, and use their lift for a detailed inspection . Their service guys would also be available if my guy needed any tools or info from them. I proceeded to do some quick research and found a Porsche mechanic/ engine builder in the local area, and negotiated with him to come to the dealer to do my PPI. We did that, and the car got a clean bill of health. I then bought the car, and it's been perfect for 3 years now. It may not have been the most detailed PPI of all time, but it gave me peace of mind that there was nothing wrong from a mechanical standpoint.

So, in my case, it worked out fine, and I wouldn't have a problem working with a dealer that used this same policy.

I didn't read every post, but 15k mile Speedster likely is ok underneath. I'd feel comfortable if it had to stay on their lot. Ideally I'd get it on a lift at their location, at a minimum a quick look underneath with it on the ground and a flashlight. This is providing that the seller is reputable. If you're dealing with a dealer that has any shady history, I wouldn't buy the car without a proper PPI and maybe even with a proper PPI I wouldn't buy it. To me it is all about buying the seller. Paint meter should also give you a general idea if there is anything that they're hiding. Proper DME scan with a PIWIS (Porsche scan tool) or Durametric will also tell you a lot.

Thanks for confirming this. Even if it wasn't this dealership's policy, I could certainly see it being invoked if for some reason the seller thought the buyer didn't seem serious. Particularly with a limited edition classic, there's a risk for the seller in letting it off the lot.

I hope the OP is real and frankly I hope he gets this car. There are people that make excuses and people that get things done. Get it done!

Wow, that's the one!

@bcgreen - Time for me to eat a little crow here. Obviously you are real and I sincerely apologize for suggesting you weren't. My BS detector is pretty good but it obviously isn't as good as I thought it was and it's healthy (albeit embarrassing) to be humbled once in a while. Mea culpa.

I'll clean up my mess upthread and hopefully you can get this done and make it work.

Oddball Thread--->As a member since 2004, bcgreen should be aware of the nightmare stories on RL of high end car dealerships that have basically stolen customers deposits/full payments and gone Chapter 11/ BK.
Recent California/Miami Florida/ Exotic Car Dealerships well known to the Porsche community. I'd be super cautious buying from used car dealer these days especially 3000 miles away.
Better to be hands on with any high dollar transaction. Used to be private party deals were the ones to be cautious of but lots of predatory business practices going on.

Sorry for coming off rude in earlier posts but just seems like oddball posting typical of the trolls lately.
