Default Easy update to MagSafe for Rennline Phone Mount

I put a Rennline Exact Fit magnetic phone mount in my 997.2 a few years ago right after buying the car. It worked great. Stick the steel plate on the Iphone X case and it stayed put all this time.

Recently got a new iPhone 13, and the 13's Mag-Safe case for use with the wireless charger wasn't compatible.

Wandered around BestBuy and found this Otterbox MagSafe Vent Clip Mount. Easy-peezy, just unscrewed the ring and it fits perfect on the ball-stud of the Rennline mount. It's just a mount, not a charger, but it holds the new MagSafe iPhone 13 case securely and perfectly.

FYI, the Spiegel MagSafe Car Charger fits on the Rennline mount as well.

If you buy it, buy direct from Spiegel because they are currently selling a Gen 2 that has magnets that are 3x stronger than Gen 1.

It’s low profile and the phone is on super secure.

This is awesome.. so the original base will just come off and go onto the rennline mount?

Beautiful was wondering if a MagSafe solution was available yet. I have been using a qi charger on the rennline ball mount but this would be a nice upgrade

Good to know about the chargers. I'm ok with the wire for now.

I like the "oval" one, because the new mag-safe phone case has a vertical strip, right below the circle. That keeps it locked in straight up and down so it doesn't go spinning around on the magnet.

Good to see there are several off-the-shelf solutions.

Yep, just need to disassemble and put the post from the Spiegel on the Rennline base.

My phone doesn’t spin, ever.

The magnets are strong enough it holds in place with no spinning or deflection.

Even when chucking my car around tight turns on Lime Creek Road.

I also have a clear case like yours.

I put mine on last night, so much better! I took it for a drive on some rough roads and my phone didn’t even move

I found that Apple's 'basic' magsafe charger will stick to the magnetic piece that comes with the Rennline mount and works pretty well as it allows you to move the phone outward slightly, which helps keep the Max-series iPhones from getting in the way when you shift into 5th.

I love the Rennline mount, but do wish it put the phone about 2" higher.

Do you find the car battery is depleted if you leave the mount on without the phone for prolonged periods of time, since you plug it into the always on socket?

I don't--it seems like the car shuts down the socket at some point.

I have not.

Even when the car has sat for weeks.

then our CTEK’s wouldn’t work?
i unplug my devices plugged into the console socket whenever I leave the car for any extended period, they remain live.

It may be the adapter that does it--I've found I have to unplug/plug the 12v->USBC adapter to 'reactivate' the magsafe charger if the car's sat for an extended period of time.

I keep my car on a tender that's connected straight to the battery when it's in the garage, so am less concerned about parasitic drain than many may be.
