Default Headlight Plastic lens replacement: Aftermarket solution

Came across this website which advertises replacement headlight lenses for our cars.
http://www.headlight-headlamp.com/Po...d-Replace.html

Has anyone used them before? website looks quite outdated and a gmail email. Wondering what the fitment would be like?

I ordered a set.
Payed with Paypal.
I'll be the guinea pig.
Will report back once they arrive and I do the swap.

Good find. Haven't heard of them. Maybe someone has taken the plunge?

"After confirm the part you want to order and negotiate well about the price, we can start our transaction."

Not too crazy about the "negotiate well" the price. That plus the fact that they are in China, might make any claims or even installation instructions questionably interesting. I would personally just file this as a possible option and a last one in that realm. Caveat Emptor!

I was pretty excited to check it out but they don't even have a proper SSL cert and they take western union. I guess you could pay via paypal but the overall site doesn't have much polish so it doesn't exactly instill much confidence in ordering/the product.

FYI - If your headlight lenses are faded or clouded by the sun, I have had excellent results on a couple of my 996's hiring a detail guy off Craigslist who buffed them with special solution and they looked like new when finished.
Cost was $80 and took him 2 hours.
Important you check references of person you hire but they are out there. You can also go to detail shop but I've noticed in several markets guys who buff the lenses.

I'm told that after buffing it is essential to spray on a UV protection coating.

Yes. I used the Meguiars Headlight Restoration Kit and it included a final UV protection spray. It worked very well and the lenses came out looking like new.

How long does that last however before you have to do it again?

It's been almost a year and they still look fine and I put 10K miles on it this past year. I imagine at some point they'll need to be redone, but if these new lenses are legit I will probably put a set on the next time I need to clean them.

if the headlight lenses are faded, yellow etc a wetsand and polish will make them look new. This headlight lens replacement is for folks who have spider web like cracks in their lenses. That will not buff out. Its caused either by age and sun and/or having a PPF on the headlight and removing it somehow causes spider web cracks.

I would guess that removal of the PPF isn't actually what cracks the headlight lenses and it's people cleaning up the remaining adhesive residue with isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol that can actually craze plastic. Denatured alcohol should really be used with working with plastic to prevent that.

Removing the oxidation from lenses only helps if it's occurring on the outside. Sometimes, you'll find there's oxidation on the inside as well from where the plastic has been heated up in the beam projection area. In these cases, you'd need to open the headlight up regardless to address that so it'd make more sense to replace the lens at that point.

apply ppf to them. that should help make your headlamp restoration permanent
