New Battery Mystery - Huh?!
2009 C2S 175K miles
I have a new Interstate battery in my car and I don't know how it got there!
I went out to clear the drains around the battery.... something we should all be doing especially in the fall when debris can clog them... and saw a new Interstate battery in there! It had a sticker on the top 5/21. The acid vent was plugged in (good), but the acid vent hole on the other side was open (bad)... so I plugged it.
Now the car was out of my possession twice. The first was in July when I had the car shipped from Philly to Atlanta.... do shippers remove batteries after they load the vehicles? Maybe the driver got it mixed with another one? And second when I took the car to Buckhead Auto Sport to have my coils replaced and my A/C diagnosed. I rechecked my invoice and a new battery is not there.
Goofy!!!
Questions:
1) Is that 5/21 sticker on the battery top the date of manufacture?
2) Do shippers remove batteries?
3) Where do you typically buy Interstate batteries... I have no idea as I usually buy Autozone
4) WTF? (um... that stands for World Trade Federation)
5) Could my massive DIY impulses cause me to sleepwalk and do random repairs?
No kidding this is weird.
Peace

Interesting. What brand, type, size and age was the old one. What type and size is the new one.
5/21 is either the manufacture date for AGM and probably the fill date for a flooded cell.
I have had cars shipped. Batteries are not on their list to mess with.
My guess is that unless your battery was a new odyssey or a high dollar lithium, it got replaced due to a shop mix up or they killed your battery.

Looking at my records, my last battery was Duralast Gold (Autozone) for $185 I installed in January of 2016. I buy only Autozone Duralast... don't ask me why, I just do. I don't know the size I purchased at that time. I usually get 7 years from these batteries. I never purchased an Interstate... no reason why not, just don't.
I knew I was getting near the end of this battery, and started to consiger an AGM... a new voice in my head.
I wonder if the battery was replaced by the car hauler? He was an independent that moved random cars to random places. Maybe he had a dead one on delivery and pulled my old one out... then purchased a replacement for mine. This is weird.

My guess is there was a problem with your near dead battery at one of those two places and they replaced it but forgot to bill you for it....bonus! Either that or this isn't your car!!! For what its worth I have bought interstate batteries for my 997.2 at Costco when in California for the winter.

This reminds me of an alcohol + induced night in my single days where I was positive I went home with a blonde girl only to wake up and find a fairly decent brunette laying beside me .... Did I complain ...Hell no ..I could have easily ended up next to a lady boy ! Either way you have a good newer battery . On the note of AGM batteries , I installed one last year in my car and bike and both have been excellent. I won't go back to wet cell batteries now having AGM's ... The crank and voltage supply is better and even after a few weeks of non usage not a hint of hesitation on start up. I never did get the nuts to ask the blonde girl what happened that night ?

I had that same Interstate battery in my car. It was 4 years old this year and I noticed it was kind of getting weaker starting the car even though I kept it on a maintainer so I installed a Champion AGM and noticed immediately that the starting was faster, even after a hot restart after shutting it off. I’m not going back to standard lead acid anymore.

Based on the date, the car shipper replaced it - battery was manufactured 2 months before he replaced it in July which is fairly fresh by battery stabdards. Also, take a good look at the positive connector for your battery tender cable - connection looks suspect. The battery vent hose needs to not be plugged - it needs to be able to vent, especially being a regular lead acid battery and not an AGM.
