Default 1st Gear Jam - Pakistani Wizards!!!

2009 C2S 174K miles

So... my manual transmission suffers from the first gear jam..Mobil PTX makes the problem go away... for a while. Gee.... I wonder if these Pakistani wizards could take a look?

Amazing how we sweat details such as torque values... getting DIYs from the 'net.... pay big bucks for AllData.... Watch these guys tear apart a transmission... throw the bazzilion bits into trays... and somehow put it all back together. Wizardry I tell ya!!! These guys are great!

Jake!! You need to hire these guys.

Peace

First gear jam? I believe mine suffers from that also. Is that a balk going into first, even when fully stopped? If so, my 6 speed just started doing that the last couple times I've driven it. I just turned 21k miles.

It goes to the dealer in a couple weeks to address it while it's still under CPO warranty (2 months left). I wonder how they will handle it, I never got the warm fuzzy feeling from the SA there when it came to warranty repairs.

Edit. Great video, I never knew where PDK's went to get rebuilt. Childs play!

Wow, and with 24 month warranty! Like you say, we take too much for granted and worry too much on BS stuff lol.

Let us know how they handle it. Folks here have suggested several different “cures” including changing the fluid in the gearbox, adjusting the shift cables, or replacing your motor mounts. Mine does balk when at a stop and going into first sometimes but not often (I have 37K miles on my 07S). All I do when this happens is to put it into 2nd or 4th and then back into 1st and it always goes in.

Amazing display of group think and mechanical skills. Torque wrenches need not apply and no repair manual. The small hands help!!

Haha, that is awesome - that guy is a magician.

Torque wrenches are for suckers.

I just love this channel.... here is one where the gears are really chewed up..... In the USA, we say the whole thing is toast since metal particulates circulate and we assume everything is ruined. Not here!!!!

Again, Pakistani Wizards at work. BTW, no ratchet wrenches?

Question: Why the drum brake? Is this a crude form of engine braking? A safety item or what you do in absence of a Jake Brake?

Peace

The Drum Brake on the back is the "P" for park / "Hand Brake".

Kind of cool, especially when most of the developing world have these vehicles that needs to be working all the time. I imagine that if they didn't do a good job, there may be some consequences...

Cringed when they used the original transmission fluid after the rebuild, especially with ground up gear teeth in the mix.
