New 997 Owner and Intro
I bought a 997 a few months ago and after much delay I am finally making my first post. I am a long time Porsche enthusiast and had a 944 many years ago but this is my first 911. I found this forum so helpful while I was looking for my car. Anyway, hello and below is some info about my new to me car with a couple of pics..
2009 Carrera with 12K miles that I bought as a CPO car. Was a one owner car with a clean CarFax. Options include Carrera Classic Wheels, PASM, Bose, Heated seats, Navigation, and PDK. I had been looking for a manual and did not want another black car (as it shows every mark, etc.) but the condition, low mileage w. CPO, Sand beige interior and advice from good friends convinced me to buy this one. As part of the CPO work the dealer completed a 40K service, alignment, and installed a new battery.
Since getting the car I had my local dealer install the Sport mode software so the car now has Sport and Sport+ modes, which is definitely nice w. the PDK. I am really enjoying the car and often look for excuses to drive it.

You made the right call. Beautiful car and well done installing the Sport modes.

Ditto here! If you want that black to really look great and stay that way, look into ceramic coating. I just completed a full cut and polish on my C4S and finished it with ceramic prep and then ceramic. It was easier to put on than wax and the shine is amazing. It's also a lot harder than paint so it won't swirl like paint. Stuff lasts years too. Beads water like nothing else. Highly recommended!

Congrats on a basically new 997. I agree with BucketList about ceramic coating, and also get front end PPF. Enjoy

Thanks everyone for the positive feedback! Also, appreciate the advice on ceramic coating. Getting a paint correction and ceramic coating is actually the next thing on my list for the car. In the past I have usually done my own detail work on my cars but I am hesitant doing a ceramic coating myself, so I need to look for a good detail shop.

You can achieve professional results yourself at a very small fraction of the cost. Then you can devote the savings toward other upgrades.
In my case, the savings on the two cars I did paid for a Tubi exhaust system and a DSC Sport controller.

Great car, congrats! I love the simple five-spoke design of the Carrera Classic wheels.

I went through the following exhaust system iterations (shown in sequence):
- Stock setup (it's a 2009 997.2 C2S)
- Fister Sport Mufflers - retaining the stock center muffler
- Fister Sport Mufflers - replacing the stock center muffler with a Sharkwerks unit
- Tubi Mufflers - retaining the Sharkwerks center crossover
Stock setup was entirely too sedate for me. Going with the swap out to Fister mufflers was an improvement, but the car had a nasally sound to it in certain RPM ranges. Replacing the center muffler increased the overall sound level, and in some RPM ranges it was great (mainly 5k and higher). From about 2000 to 5000 RPM's or so however, it was still really nasally sounding to me.
Switching to the Tubi setup resolved it all for me. More open and more refined sound through all RPM ranges. Great sound at idle. Low RPM sound is really nice. High RPM sound is absolutely incredible. The Tubi solution was one of the best changes I've made to the car. Plus the Tubi solution cut nearly 20 lbs of weight in the rear of the car (as compared with the Fister mufflers with the Sharkwerks unit.)
I was lucky in that I found a pair of Tubi mufflers on the Rennlist Market Place. They were in overall good shape, but I devoted some time restoring the finish of them prior to installing them on the car. Here's a brief video that I put together that documented the restoration process...

It has proven out to be the perfect solution for me.

Hey GPM_997, beautiful car, congrats! I found my Basalt Black 997.2 Carrera manual, Sport +, with Carrera Classics 2 years ago and love it. Also my first 911 after having an 86' 944t a few cars ago. It's my daily driver and weekend track car, great for both.
I agree that ceramic coatings are a good choice. I've done my wheels and the black trim on my car (2 different products) and it turned out well. I may have been tempted to do the whole car, but it had PPF on it from new that was peeling on the rocker panels, so I bit the bullet and had it replaced by a local shop (Louisville Ky) that does top quality work. Pricey, but it's a 10 year product, minimum and I still use a spray-on ceramic every few washes. Really shows off the amazing amount of metal flake in the paint.
Re: exhausts, Tubi is the s*** but finding a used one, while not impossible obviously, is really rare. And the new price is Ouch. I did find a used Sharkwerks X pipe for the center muff. delete and got Fister cans. I think the sound is great and gives a very pleasing burble on decel. Also, nicely priced.
Also, also, I have an EVOMs tune on it that adds a nice torque bump. Super reliable and conservative, probs 20K miles on the tune. Good product.
