Default Key problems

I picked up a replacement key fob off Amazon. I transferred the guts from my old key including the metal key blade. The key will open the doors and pop the hood but it won’t start the car. .

Any ideas?

Did you transfer the immobilizer chip? Its glued into the old body you can need to cut it out.

Yes - I transferred the chip. It wasn’t easy to extract. I hope I didn’t damage it.

I wouldn’t think the doors would open without the chip which makes me think the chip is not damaged.

The immobilizer chip doesn't affect anything with door lock operations. The car only checks for the immobilizer chip when you try to start. Not sure the process to verify if your immobilizer chip is still functioning but I'm sure there's tools for that. Perhaps a locksmith or dealer can verify for you. Do you have a spare key to test that your car still starts/drives?

Yes, the car starts on the spare key.

I think that kind of answers the question and it's thr immobilizer chip that's no longer working.

Does anyone sell immobilizer chips separate from the fob?

Key problem here but different issue - Most of the time when I unlock using the key fob, no issues. I'd say ~10% of the time though, I'll come out from a store or wherever and nothing. Try to unlock the frunk and nothing (wasn't an issue locking the car though). So I open it the old fashioned way and take off. Stop somewhere else, car locks fine and when I come out, it opens fine. I've replaced the battery in the fob but that doesn't seem to have done anything. Any thoughts?
Car is a '06 C2S Cab

I see on EBay there’s a vendor that says they supply a fob with the transponder. Has anyone gone this route? Did it work?

Porsche seems to have this key thing locked down pretty tight. My mechanic says he will only program Porsche supplied keys. Same with the local Porsche dealer. Makes me wonder if Porsche will provide the key code - probably not.
