I would walk away from this car. It is very hard to believe you can rebuild a 997 for $10K in the UK. Your best bet is to reach out to Hartech directly and ask what is the average cost of a rebuild.
I am in the middle of a rebuild and can tell you that I am spending north of $25K. Anyone telling you differently has not had an engine rebuilt lately.
I would do a compression test on the cylinders its hard to tell streaking on cylinders from deep gushes that affect the ring seal. Then Id buy it for the right price if you factor in cost of a rebuild.
Btw mine had bore scoring on 5,6 and loud piston slap car would stall once warm,
I did a compression check and each cylinder had about 150 psi cold. The 5 cylinder had 60 and #6 had zero. Just as an indicator
Yeah, right? Like twice as cheap in the UK how come?
Nothing that I know of is cheaper in Europe than in the US. Usually the other way around which most likely includes the cost of rebuilding a 997 engine. Subjective I suppose but I wouldn't have the engine torn apart and just rebuild one cylinder. For me to consider that car I would include the cost of a full rebuild of all cylinders in the price of the car.
Yeah, right? Like twice as cheap in the UK how come?
Different philosophy in UK (Hartech) v. USA (Raby/Navarro). Hartech will rebuild Bank 2 only to keep costs down. USA rebuilders will not do a rebuild unless BOTH banks are rebuilt at same time. Hence, the cost difference.
