UPDATE: Sorry, I should have posted this sooner.....
I sent an e-mail to Justin Underwood at Porsche Colorado Springs asking about the PCCM+ for 997.1/987.1's a couple months ago. Justin and John Dyste do a podcast called "First Dibs: From Inside Porsche Colorado Springs", and Porsche Colorado Springs is one of the few Porsche Classic dealers in the US. They reached out to their source at Porsche Classic and answered my question in episode 12 at minute 44:30. You can go listen to their response but they said that their source with Porsche Classic is saying no definitive timeline, possibly 2023 at the earliest now for the PCCM+ for our cars. I'm not surprised with the chip and supply chain shortages. If the PPCM+ is released later this year I would be pleasantly surprised, but it's sounding like it's at least a year out at this point.

This. I'm sure Porsche prefers to use those resources for their seats and steering columns...

The planned PCCM+ is for the .1 cars only. If I had a .2 like you, or even a 991.1, I would do exactly what you did and upgrade the factory unit using one of the aftermarket solutions that utilizes the factory PCM and touch screen. That's be best way for 997.2 and 991.1 owners to upgrade to moden tech without replacing the entire head unit. Enjoy!

If it’s wired only, you can use CarPlay2Air or something similar.

I have the NM unit and it's supposed to do wired but I haven't tried. Can do so today. However, wireless CarPlay should be running over WiFi and thus using effectively AirPlay which should give you the full bitrate of the source material. I have never noticed a difference but then a 997 with center muffler delete isn't a superb place for critical listening either...

The NM kit can do both wired or wireless.
I have my iPhone setup for wireless CarPlay and on longer journeys I have a MagSafe charger plugged into the wired usb cable (glove box) and charge my phone that way, no cables on show.
