Hello all,
I have a 997.2 with the Bose sound system. It is new to me, so I don't know if this is normal, but I have to adjust the bass way up and the treble down to get something approximate to normal sound from the stereo. It seems to me that something is probably wrong. Am I correct in this assumption? Any suggestions?
Woofer cones are probably shot! The surrounding membrane of the speaker cone deteriorates over time and basically just crumbles away.
I suggest that you use the "search" feature of this site since there are many, many posts on replacement options as well as "how to" if you want to tackle it yourself.
Also, in some post there was a comment that you might try: "resetting" your PCM/and the Bose amp. I don't remember what fuse it was, but the recommendation was to remove the fuse, key on (not necessary to start the engine), then key off. They replace the fuse.
I did it, and noticed a pretty significant change in bass delivery. 2009 997.2S
Yeah on my 997.2 with Bose, the bass is actually pretty decent even at mid/upper point on the dial. It's not thumping but pretty good. I would like some more thump, but can't have it all!
There is an option somewhere in the menus to reset the system... two levels of reset... pick the big one. Pulling a fuse will not reset it. Also, no one found a secret button pushing option to reset either. If anyone knows of a way, let us know.
Thank you all for the replies. Quick question: where might I find the subwoofer?
I took my passenger door apart when I changed the window regulator and the speakers looked OK at the time, so I'm pretty sure they're not crumbled to dust. No problems hearing sound from them either. After reading your suggestions I have my suspicions about the sub.
Forgot to mention it's a cabriolet, but I'm pretty sure I can feel a subwoofer barely doing its job back there when I put my hand on the shelf where the top rests when folded. I'll poke around and see if I can find some kind of reset in the PCM.

Poking at the PCM menus for sound I found an option called "Linear" that was turned on. I turned it off and everything started far less flat. Thanks for the help, everyone!

I would still reset it. I keep linear on... as that is the flattest, normal sounding selection... it avoids some sort of processing. If you like it, fine, but there may be other wacky settings in there.
If you find that your door speakers are damaged like many of us have, I have a set of replacement Focals new in box available. I replaced mine as the foam surrounds were totally gone. But due to an order error, have this extra set available. Focal ISU 200 new in box - Rennlist - Porsche Discussion Forums
