Question on next oil change
Hey guys - quick question for the group.
So I bought my 997.2 November of last year and the last oil change on record was on 7/30/2020 at 15,500 miles.
Today I have around 17,000 so if I had to estimate I will hit 18,500 - 19,000 by 7/30/2021. I have a major milestone coming up at 20k miles.
so my options are:
1) do 1 year oil change at 7/30 date and do 20k service a couple months later
2) wait until I hit 20k and do oil change with the 20k service (so maybe 14-15 months since last oil change)
3) just drive more and hit 20k by 7/30

I'd say 2. Waiting a couple extra months will not cause any issues. Do the oil service and 20k service at the same time.

I drove mine year round regardless of weather until retirement and the pandemic arrived together. I am at risk of timing out my oil maintenance (rather tram mileage) for the first. I used to change oil every two months.
So I'm not really qualified to talk about the evils of cars sitting around anymore!!!!

6 months or 5,000 miles, whichever comes first

What’s in the 20k service anyway?
At 10 years have the spark plugs been changed?
Everything else is fluids right?
Anyway, just wait if you aren’t DIYing. You really should DIY an oil change. Doesn’t cost more than $40/$50 to do yourself.

I live outside Seattle too and my policy is if the sun is out I get the 911 out... Been lots of ops lately. Seattl has a decent cars and coffee scene that will be starting up in the next month or two as well...

I do annually or 5,000 miles and sometimes that 5k miles takes 14 or 15 months, so I tend to do it more on mileage than time. My UOA reports show the oil at that time is more basic than acidic, so not an issue with it eating internal engine metals.
For you, I say option 2.

I don't know about you guys but when you buy a used car I think that the first thing/day you should do an oil and filter change. First of all you and if the previous owner did not keep meticulous records, you may not really know what oil, viscosity, how long it's been in the engine, etc.
Call me paranoid but the ease of mind at a minimal cost pays off as well establishing a base point for future maintenance.
But hey, that's just me.

The 928 transmission fluid came out golden brown, so that was super fresh. The motor oil didn't and from the UOA report I did, found the PO (and confirmed by him) had run some SeaFoam in it as well, so glad I didn't leave that in longer. I've done that myself to desludge an engine, but only run it for a hundred miles or so that way before changing it. Wear metals were higher than I'd like so curious to see what the next UOA report shows not that I have good stuff in there.
