Question on next oil change

I don't know about you guys but when you buy a used car I think that the first thing/day you should do an oil and filter change. First of all you and if the previous owner did not keep meticulous records, you may not really know what oil, viscosity, how long it's been in the engine, etc.
Call me paranoid but the ease of mind at a minimal cost pays off as well establishing a base point for future maintenance.
But hey, that's just me.

Used car oil changes ...
It was the early 70s when I bought my first van from a fleet sale. 130K miles of non detergent oil. I failed to think about that as I immediately changed the oil, adding a high detergent type. 1,500 miles later the hydraulic lifters plugged and I learned how to do my first engine rebuild.
Later days I not only did an immediate oil change when acquiring used vehicles but another in 500 miles. I know ... Overkill these days. But it goes to peace of mind.
Then again, I no longer buy another used car each month. My last used purchase was the 997.2 in September of 2014. But if / when I buy another, it will get the same treatment.

Regardless of whether you do 6 months/5k, or 1 year, etc...I think getting a UOA with every change is a must with these cars. It's not a big expense and could potentially reveal engine issues earlier than they would otherwise show themselves. Also, selling a car with multiple UOA going back tens of thousands of miles would be a nice record for new owners to see.

As already suggested do a UOA with a TBN will tell you the life expectancy of your oil and potentially give early warning for a failing part. The remaining life algorithm in today's modern cars is a conservative guide.
Its your choice to when and how often you change your oil and other fluids, but IMO and based on conservative recommendations 5k and twice a year is not needed for normal use.

I change my oil every 5000 miles. I do an oil analysis every time and I have found a breakdown of the package around 8000 miles. I tried doing oil changes at like 6000 miles and even 7000 miles, but remembering the mileage I was always over and under wondering which 1000 miles I needed to change it. So much easier to just change it every 5000 miles. It might be a little early, but I am fine with that as it is easier to manage.

I've put 12k miles on my 911 in just the past 6 months and over 20k since the start of the pandemic. Great for one's mental health in an otherwise very depressing time. "Porsche Therapy" as I've named it.
