Great info @Bruce In Philly , and thanks for adding to the the thread. I updated my original post to refer to yours also which confirms there are 2 ways to create working space around the water pump.

The decision can be driven by what other work is being done or what one feels more comfortable with.

The internal housings from both cars are shockingly clean! That coolant must have some good anticorosion stuff in it.

@BucketList It was the same on one of my Cayennes when I changed the pump at around 150k miles. My 997.2 had about 78k miles when I did the change.

This is a great thread. As our cars get older, more DIY threads will pop up, and there will be less threads on where do you park if/when you take your 911 to the store. That's what it's like in some of the other forums, like 928 and Boxster, where most owners are not original owners, but bought their cars to enjoy and drive them, and to tinker from time to time. Occasionally I look at the 991 and 992 forums, and it is a world of difference.

Anyone have the part number for the upper coolant hose that connects to the thermostate housing. I nicked mine pretty good pulling it out and would like to replace it.

You know exactly what to do... change your water pump. Stops leaks and your car from getting wet.

Peace

Just did mine as a preventitive 97,000k on it and still good other than a little noise when you give it a good spin ... Just a few things to add, Firstly if you are replacing the thermostat also as I did, make sure the coolant hard line is Above the thermostat before you install it ....I had to disconnect the coolant hard line on both ends get it back above the thermostat to reconnect .

Secondly I had to torque the thermostat bolts tighter than the prescribed 7-8 ft/lbs.as when I first started her up I had a very small drip from the bottom of the thermostat , once I snugged it up a little more and let the car warm up it disappeared.

Last but not least I picked up an Airlift 5000 as others suggested cheap on my local Kijji and it made the coolant refill effortless .. What I initially took out in coolant the Airlift put back in less a teaspoon !! .. Just lovely !!

Fantastic DIY photos and description!
My hat is off to your guys that work on your cars. Although I am probably one of the most experienced at watching my Indy work on my P-cars.

Replacing both Idler pulleys good idea when doing this Water Pump replacement. On 2 of my 997's they went bad at about 80-90K miles so good preventative measure.

Default Hard pipe thermostat to water pump

PLASTIC PIPE THERMOSTAT TO WATER PUMP: As I have posted on another thread I have been trying to replace the gasket/ seal which has a slight drip/ weep at this pipe (thermostat end). I was unable to do so as things did not go well. I am trying to figure out if removing the water pump as per the instructions in this thread will give me access to the E10 at the water pump end. HELP ANYONE

Default Great Thread

Just finished belt, tensioner and water pump on a 2010 turbo. (June 2024) A poster on the thread I started provided a link to this thread. I wish I had read this before. Gary and Bruce have really done a service to our community. THANKS! (I installed Gary’s updated front lip on my 997.1. That was well done, too)

slight differences. O ring on my pump, no gasket. Stubby external torx set from Schwaben/Pelican was crucial. I’d like to find a stubby internal torx set. I may get another normal internal set of sockets and grind/cut some off each end.

Yea, O-ring on mine, I called it a gasket, it is not.

Peace
