Come on down to NC and you can use mine.
So by doing this, it will act only as signal lights and will not be on all the time?

Correct. It becomes a blinker and not a side marker.

I'm curious - why does it bother you? When you are in the car driving, you can't see them. Why would you be looking at the car from the outside with the lights on, other than briefly running into a gas station store or something like that. Not trying to be a jerk, just wondering the motivation for the question.

If you leave the oem halogen bulbs they look old and ugly, if you put in led bulbs they are too bright and distracting, no light works best.

Are you driving at night with your head sticking out of the car door to check out the brightness of the side marker lights? 😁

Yes. Also, isnt enjoying your car more then just the drive? Aesthetics count too no?

I was just kidding ya. I get what you are trying to say. Some people like to swap out the factory .1 tail lights to the Christmas light LED versions too to make their car seem more up to date, but I’m a fan of the OEM look. Just get the side lights recoded to work as blinkers, and you’ll be happy again.

From the government regulations...

S5.1.1Except as provided in succeeding paragraphs of this S5.1.1, each vehicle shall be equipped with at least the number of lamps, reflective devices, and associated equipment specified in Tables I and III and S7, as applicable....

S5.1.1.3 Intermediate side marker devices are not required on vehicles less than 30 feet in overall length.

Maybe no lights to do high speed night runs without drawing attention…

i think the sidemarkers being on makes it a bit less clean for photoshoots, etc.

its only applicable for NA cars due to the regulation. I don't believe the other regions have this.

Great question. On my 997, I have turned the side markers into turn signals using the coding feature on the Foxwell NT530 scanner. However, keep in mind, that the side markers help you remain visible when others view your car from the side. Hope this helps.

I agree with this, which is why I decided to not go through with the recoding to blinkers. In my view, it’s possible to be side by side with someone in the dark at speed and not see their car even if they have their headlights on because their headlights could at a certain point be confused with your own spray from your headlights and then you don’t see them next to you, and then you turn into their lane, and an accident occurs.
