Default Indicator Electrical Problem

I wonder if anyone can point me in the right direction on this one. When driving out yesterday to collect my lockdown takeaway, I noticed that indicators were misbehaving on my 54 plate 997.1 C2S. And, dangerously so. When indicating left, it was intermittent (i.e. occasionally didn't come on) but when indicating right, the car was, again, intermittently working but worse still was occasionally alternating between the left and right indicators! I thought this may have juts been the lights on the dash but when I got back I ran some tests and saw that this 'alternating' behaviour was also happening on the external indicator lights too!!!! Not good at all.

All the bulbs are working so I'm assuming this must be some kind of electrical thing but I wonder if anyone can point me to the place to start diagnosis.

Never heard of this before. Maybe the contacts on the turn signal stalk itself?

I'm not saying this is the same as what you have ... Just my experience with a .2 car.

My hazard lights (flashers) started acting fully weird. It turned out to be a problem with my front computer (located under the plastic pieces on the side of the frunk on the gas filler side). The problem was just as weird as the one you're describing.

I replaced that computer and the new one couldn't see the frunk light switch. But the hazards worked. Swapped ten back and forth a few times. The specific problem for each followed the computer. I don't think these are the most dependable devices.

I ended up using the newer computer and hard wired the frunk light to the switch rather than using the computer as an intermediary. I switched to an LED bulb to minimize switching loads. I lost the timer function but added a master switch inline.

I had a friend who lost his front computer when his wife rubbed her yoga pants on the front fender as she walked by, creating static. At least that's what he was told. Again, not necessarily the most dependable devices.

I’d assume the 997 has a turn signal relay.

Edit: it does https://www.ladismantler.com/porsche...t-99761820100/

Also look here ...

"997.2 LED turn signal INOP, but only sometimes... - Rennlist - Porsche Discussion Forums" https://rennlist.com/forums/997-foru...sometimes.html

Connections are always a concern regarding electrical failures. But I'm still concerned that the flip from side to side is a logic failure, aka computer based.

There's no guarantee that a 997.1 and 997.2 are the same. Does the 997.2 have a relay? Specifying your car in these posts could be helpful.
