997.1 need help to identify leak
Hi all,
Last Monday (two days ago) I noticed an oil leak under my 2005 997.1 tiptronic. Color appeared to be greenish.
I clean it up and went for an easy drive downtown.
This morning I checked again and there was another small drop of greenish oil that built up in 2 days.
Size of the leak: more or less the size of a coin.
Seem to come from the engine oil area.
But I never had a single drop of leak before.
I don't think that it's related, but a month ago, I changed my tiptronic and differential fluid but there are no apparent leaks from there.
Any idea?

Burning Brakes
That region is commonly associated with the RMS. I’ve read that the IMS seal could also leak.
Since it’s an ‘05, has the IMS bearing been upgraded or is it the later larger version?

Look at that same area on the other side of the oil pan (should be pointer). Is that side wet too?
If the leaking area is the same as what I circled in the pic below, it might be the case halves leaking. My 05 did that.
What you need to do is take each one of those bolts out one at a time, clean them with brake cleaner, clean the bolt paasgaeway with brake cleaner on a - Q-tip, put some oil resistant silicone sealant on the threads and up around the end cap of the bolt and retorque them. Theelre are 3 or 4 on each side. Mine has never leaked again and that was probably 5 years ago when I did this fix.
