This lease is actually the first time I’ve owned a car for 3 full years since I was a teenager.

Resale/depreciation is a lot more important to me on a $100k car than a $40k car.
Alright, was just saying. The beauty of owning a Wrangler is how you get used to the comfort of not giving a fack about road conditions and tightness of parking lots. I too use my wrangler 5 to 6 days a week.

Love the term "car switch-itis" 🤣

I thought sales tax still applied to leased cars ? Or do you mean that you didn't have to pay the entire amount up front ?

In the state of Nevada, sales tax does apply to leased vehicles. It's calculated / paid with each payment rather than being collected in aggregate upfront.

Correct - if I bought the car I'd pay the whole sales tax up front along with the dealer processing fee and other miscellaneous fees. With the lease everything is rolled into the payment and I paid $0 at signing. The tax is about $27/month, so over 3 years I'll have paid $1000 in tax instead of laying out $4500ish in taxes and fees up front that I'll never get back. That along with the payment being half of the purchase price and more favorable taxation being self-employed made the lease a better option. I was still paying off my GT3 at the time so I didn't want a $700/mo payment on the second car.

My opinion. I had a 2015 Macan S as a DD for 5 years and 66k miles, also have a 2010 997.2 C4S. I have some seat time in Macan Turbos as well and there is really nothing special about a Macan compared to the 911. I love them, I really do but they will never be a 911 and they are not as close as some people like to believe. My opinion is get another daily and keep the 997.2 to enjoy when you can. Even those limited moments will be much better than spending 90% of the time in a macan.

Ya, this feels like comparing apples to potatoes. I have driven my dad's Macan a bunch, it's a fun SUV but it's not really a replacement for a 911. If it's the forced induction that you lust after maybe look for a 997 Turbo instead of the C4S now that I think we can all get behind. Love mine.

Obviously they are very different rides. Went for a spin in the 997 today and it would be tough to see it go, would have to be a perfect spec on any cars I'm looking at. More likely scenario is I just keep the 997 and buy a $40-50k Macan next year as an addition, but I'm always on the hunt for true unicorns...

If you would have purchased it, you probably would have had over $10G to put towards another vehicle. Anyways, with this said, good luck finding your next car👍
I've owned my '04 Rubicon 5sp for almost 17 years (65k) and it has only depreciated 33% over that time.
