Help Decide on a 997.2 (I have 6 Days)

I called on that car out of curiosity since it's in Hermosa Beach. It's a one-owner car, and they got it at an auction. He said it looks like a solid 8 out of 10 fr what that's worth. The question is how did it get to the auction? If it was traded in to a Porsche dealer....or frankly a LOT of dealers....they would keep it I suspect unless there is an undisclosed problem. It's a tough one. I just found a 2006 base 911 manual with 10,500 miles on it for one of my employees for $41k. It's is a 9.5 out of 10. He just had it serviced and did the seal removal thing for the IMS bearing oil flooding trick and I suspect he will be good to go for a while. It looks, feels, and drives like it's brand new.
I look at it this way: If you are on a hard budget because you simply can't afford more then that's it. You do the best you can. Still try to stay with minimal miles.
If on the other hand you have the money but don't want to allocate another $6k-$10k, don't be pennywise and pound foolish. You may want to get rid of it in 3 years and it will bring those extra dollars back to you and probably more, sell faster, and decrease the chances (all things being equal) of a major failure.
I know it's tough dude. Set alerts to autotrader.com and everybody else including Carmax, Vroom, Carvana, etc to TEXT you because the good stuff sells quick.
And this thread is how I found mine. https://rennlist.com/forums/997-foru...ation-492.html

Another fun fact. (following Wayne's reply #35 above that I just got).
997.1 series carrera coupe C2 total production all transmission options = 16,521. C2S total production =27,237. Total C2 & C2S = 43,158 cars , MT and automatic (tiptronic)
997.2 series Carrera coupe C2 total production ,all trans (MT & PDK = 7,190 C2S total = 9,470 Total C2 & C2S -= 16,660 cars Worldwide. MT & PDK. This about 1/3 of the 997.1 production. (Cabs, targas GT and 4wheel drive not included here) This is worldwide numbers. From here the analysis gets a bit vague as according to Michael Schatzle, (Porsche) 78 % of 997.2 cars were PDK on a global basis. Based on that then there would be 3,665 C2 & C2S MT cars worldwide total.. using typical 50 % U S market share , That says 1,832 total 997.2 MT coupe cars in the U S for all 997.2 years (2009 -2011) or 611 cars per year. Going farther, that would mean there are only 790 997.2 C2 cars sold in the US and 1,041 C2S 997.2 MT's in existence
However he also said that the U S market share of MT cars was higher than the global percentage of 22 %. Even if we increase this ratio, we still find that the total C2 and C2S MT's would be less than 3,000 cars. That is not a big number. This is less than the 356 speedster numbers.
How many of us have bought a 997.2 MT in the last 6 months? What did you Pay? This will be better data than 1 year ago (me) or 2 or 4 years ago.

To #45 above , You do not have to replace the HPFP until it fails. The good news for you is Porsche did a quiet recall on these and replaced them at N/C at the dealerships when under warrenty , CPO and even after warrenty. Since your car was dealer serviced, I am confident that is was taken care of. Any dealer can look up the records for this. Supposedly the part number or look of the new one could be determined by inspection. Your PPI guy is wrong as the 997.2 cars with the 9A1 engine does not have water r pump problems. The 997.1 cars all have water pump problems. You are good.

I like your straight shooter style lol. It's a CA car all its life as stated on the carfax. Not sure on the HPFP (although it has been serviced at a dealership from day 1 to 46k miles as reported by carfax - but those reports tend to be very vague as you know). I'll ask the PPI tech. He mentioned I may need a water pump as a preventive measure in the future if everything checks out as these do go out (?).
Well see after the PPI....thanks!

Edit ... Sorry for any repetition here. I wrote this before seeing a previous response.

Replaced hi press. fuel pump (under CPO warranty) Feb 3, 2016 at 43,712 miles
Other than replacing the battery in Jan 2019 (59,037 miles), the only other expenses have been scheduled maintenance and tires. Oh yes, I added Fister sport mufflers for a much better sound ($800 including installation by Black Forest/San Diego (another shameless plug) and last week added a Type S Wireless Backup Camera ($170). Total costs over past 4 years (excluding gas, insurance and DMV) has been $6,300 or ~$103/month.
Definitely get a Rev report. I totally agree with doclouie 's comments (#43)
Just sit in the car for 5 minutes. Do you still feel comfortable, can you reach all the controls? Play with the radio, etc. Remember, you will be living in the front seat for many years and many miles. If you are still uncertain or don't have a smile on your face, this is not the car for you. If you're still grinning, the PPI comes though with flying colors and the budget fits, go for it.
If you do get it, please post pics.

997.2 manual 911s are relatively rare for modern production cars, period.
You will get what you pay - more precisely, that should be your goal. Low $40s in today’s market means you aren’t “paying for” a perfect car. That could mean a lot of fun (less worry, etc) so long as major items don’t pop up to suggest you paid for “more” than what you paid for :-)
Depends what you are looking for, reason behind your budget, etc. Every used car us unique so it is hard to judge without seeing the car in person or getting detailed PPI results.
The market for manual 997.2 911s is solid and at the start of a likely multi-year uptrend. But you should get the car you want rather than buy and then sell again - if only due to the hassle and transaction costs. I do think it is relatively easier to buy a premium car and overpay a bit than to find that “bargain” and not be left overpaying for something that will cost more in the long run. Good luck!

Second, I apologize for the not posting until now.
Third, for anyone that is (still) interested...I finalized the purchased of the car referenced in my initial post, a 2009 997.2 C2 MT, knocking out one of my life's to-do list!
