I think you are missing my point a little bit. My point was even though I was in the red, it ONLY logged RANGE 1 over-revs. Many here will say that without range 1 over-revs, the car hasn't even been driven! The car is very easy to get into 75,76, 7,700 RPM territory. While it WAS in the red (I'm not sure exactly how far, it happens VERY fast) the rev limiter never kicked in. While the tach used on the dash is the same as an S car, the DME programming is definitely different, much higher. I don't know where exactly the redline is on this car and haven't ever seen "Porsche say's it's 7,*** RPM's" published anywhere. Just anecdotes or "increased engine speed"
Bottom line is the Powerkit engine rev's much higher than a stock 3.8 and loves it. You can take it to 7,700 rpm's and it barely logs Range1 over-revs, maybe higher. Even though I took it that high, it never hit the rev limiter and never logged range 2's. Porsche must have a lot of confidence in the bottom end and the modified heads must have upgraded valve springs to easily handle the higher revs. They must expect that when you make peak HP at the top of the RPM band, many people will try to use it, plus when you're at 7000+ RPM's, the noise is intoxicating. Especially with a Sharkwerks bypass.
Sandwedge, yes the PDK objectively is a better transmission than a manual and I really enjoy driving them. I'm looking for a 981 GTS with a PDK actually. I love my 6 speed though and is such a great fit for this car. The fact that you have a little "danger" when it comes to mis-shifts etc., gives you just a bit more adrenaline in the upper band.
When you put your foot to the floor and rev it out at redline, what RPM does your PDK shift at? I'm just curious what Porsche thinks is the optimum shift point for a PDK GTS?
“GTS and X51 C2/4S engine's fuel cutoff is 200 rpm higher than standard C2/4S and is in Range 2. So a GTS and X51 range 2 is hitting the redline/fuel cutoff and Range 1 is simply just high revs before rev cutoff.”
A succinct explanation.
For your GTS, just add 200 to the numbers on the over rev ranges of a 997.2 Carrera.

Ok, so that make some sense then. FCO, redline, and range 2 must all be at 7700. I didn't see exactly where the needle stopped but it was up there. Must have almost brushed it but the DME won't lie.
Where did you get that information? I have seen and read that anecdotally but never seen anything official. It would be nice if Porsche would publish that stuff considering certain ranges void your warranty.

I agree that the PDK is a better transmission than the manual but which one is "better" will be debated forever and will never be settled. I think the only thing that can't be debated is which one is faster on the track. For me, I just like new technology and the PDK is just an amazing transmission IF you operate it in manual mode. I don't use auto mode except when starting cold and getting the oil up to temp.
Which is why my answer to your question about shift points is kind of blurry. If in auto/sport plus mode it will shift at redline. I'm rarely in auto/sport mode except when warming up so I don't think my observations would be a good proxy. My best guess with semi aggressive driving with a warmed up engine would be upshifts around 4,000 rpm. in that configuration, give or take depending on driving style. I say that since if I'm not mistaken the PDK has a memory of sorts so if you're a careful driver, mostly in auto mode and easy on the accelerator, the PDK will remember and will shift at lower RPM's in auto mode.
It would seem from this video the PDK will shift at 7500rpm at WOT except for first gear which shifts slightly earlier (maybe to protect from a possible over rev if on a steep decline?). I notice this in my manual as well - if I floor it in first, it will hit fuel cut before 7500rpm but if I use partial throttle in first it'll let me wind it out all the way to 7500.
