Default IMS Bearing - not sealed

Pulled out the IMS bearing in my 2005 Carrera S Launch edition. It did not gmhave a seal on it, I could easily see the ***** inside the bearing when I took the flange off. I assume this means it had been replaced by a previous owner? I'm 3rd owner of the car and the last owner had no record of any IMS work done.

Thanks

It does not necessarily mean that the IMS was replaced. Some recommend that if the clutch or RMS is replaced, to just go ahead and pull the seal because it allows some oil to reach the IMS that way for some extra lubrication.

Totally correct ...Most likely removed as a precaution to allow more oil flow .... I would be more concerned as to which bearing you have in your car the "small one vs the large one" The link attached should give you everything you need. If you have the larger single row bearing then don't worry about it just drive and enjoy the car as the failure rate is extremely low.

Thanks guys, I was thinking that might be the case.

Regardless I bought the IMS retrofit bearing so I'll be confident that it'll be better than what is in there.

He said he pulled the bearing out, so unless he pulled the engine and split the case in the process of doing that, then he has the smaller bearing.

If you plan to keep the car a long time go IMS Solution - lifetime besring with no ***** or rollers, pressure oil fed bearing and lifetime solution.
