Lol, not sure what that was all about and too cringey to sit through the whole thing. Porsche helps you return to your snob boarding school after 40 years to show off how successful you are? Was that the message? Spitballing here as I didn't make it through more than 30 seconds and some fast-forwarding.
The buyer for a new 911 is definitely a different breed than those here which I think explains that awful commercial. You see it on the Rennlist forums. The 992 forum is lots of angst over whether or not to order deviated stitching. The 991 forum is chatter about the best Porsche service advisor, and is $500 a fair price for an oil change. This forum seems mostly like regular guys trying to best preserve their car and DIY maintenance. The 996 forum is guys rebuilding their engine in the rec room when the wife is visiting her sister. I think I fit in best with the 996 crowd, though the crowd here is a fun group.

That was a pretty awful ad. First the kid steals Lisa's bracelet instead of giving it back to her when they see her drop it and hangs onto it for 40 years - that's weird. Then he's a class hooligan with the slingshot. Then the 3 guys go for a drive and see their teacher who must have bought a 911 after confiscating the kid's magazine in class. The whole thing is odd.
I much prefer the 997.1 ad where the kid sees a 911 go by when he's in class, then goes to the dealership to check it out, gets the salesman's card, and says "see you in 20 years". That one, I can relate to - this middle-aged, douchebags one, not so much. LOL I must not be Porsche's target market since I don't particularly like the new design language, all the screens and electronics, and can't afford new ones that depreciate like a rock anyway.

Like I said, I'm probably no longer their target market, even though I've been and continue to be a big fan of the older cars, when the cars had soul and spirit.
The car they currently make that appeals to me the most is a Boxster with 4.0 NA motor and MT, and I don't even own a Boxster. Plus, I wouldn't get rid of any of the ones I have and am out of garage space, so not looking to add anything either. The next one will probably be a car for my son in a few years when he starts driving - maybe a 928, 968, or a 957 Cayenne, but he also might want a pick-up to be able to load his MX bike into the back and go riding, so might not be another Porsche at all. With my insurance policy, the kids can't drive any of them except my wife's 997 until they're 25 anyway.

This slays any notion that the Porsche brand is some mystical racing car designed by "pure" engineers. It is a luxury consumer brand.
This does not imply they make junk or lies, but let's not get too full of ourselves and the brand image.

I've never been to a class reunion, but if I did, I'd go there in a Porsche.
And let's not pretend that anyone here would drive their beater car to one.
Yes, it's a great driving experience. And yes, it's a trophy. Because otherwise, people wouldn't spend hours every week polishing them and researching polishing products.
I may be the only person here who likes this video. Because there are some truths there about people and competitiveness.

I've never been to one either, and as the years go by, less and less likely I ever would since it's been 33 years since high school already (WOW), but if I did go, I'd likely show up in my rented Mustang or Chrysler 300 or whatever Hertz at the local airport had for me since I live about 14 hours from where I went to school. Ideally, I'd show up in a 914, which is the same car I drove when I was in High School, but that's a long trip in a 914.

How about the .1? Less cheeseballs and an example of what most of us went through.

Now there are 3 reasons to own a .1 vs a .2 LOL

It's safe to say we were all that kid in elementary school who loved sports cars, esp the .1's. .2 owners are preppy nerds that stole a man's chain and tried to compensate their manhood at their reunion. Makes sense.

The main think I don't like about the add is the God awful colors on the cars used in the ad.
