I would wrap it in exact color you want. Repainting is worth it on a car thats got such bad paint that it needs it anyway. Yours isnt. Dont repaint.

Let this be a an example to those who want a specific color - try to buy THAT. This changing car paint is a big difficulty.

I recently wrapped my black 07 C2 cab in "dark gloss green" from Avery Dennison. I have wanted a green 911 since I was 8 years old when I saw one in a coffee table book. Green 911s are hard to find and usually well out of my price range when I do. I got an absurd deal on this 911, too, in part due to reasons mentioned below.

The gent who did the work for me gave me an aggressively good price because he's new to the business and trying to build his book. Downside... he'd never done a Porsche before and clearly did some learning on my car. But for the price paid, I cannot complain. Too much. My biggest issue, and what made his job really hard, was that the paint was in horrible condition. Badly sun damaged during prior owner's tenure. It's a bit of irony that for a wrap to look good, the paint job it's covering needs to be in excellent condition. A proper wrap job normally runs at least $3k. Expect to pay more if you're wrapping the door jambs, etc.

All in all, I'm happy with the wrap, but it's definitely not the last time I'll be doing it. It's getting me through for now. You have a bit more to lose, I think, given that your paint is presumably in decent shape; guaranteed better than mine was/is lol. And a proper wrap job is fully reversible with minimal damage to the underlying paint, again assuming it's in good shape.

MJ, I was thinking the same thing for my C4S Cab, though in Race Yellow. My only concern is that apparently it is nearly impossible for them to wrap door jambs/returns/sills, which might look odd any time you open a door? If you end up rolling that way, please keep me posted. If you get a jam-up job, getting to your area from Tampa is a pretty quick drive!

Green over red... not sure how that will turn out. Definitely talk to a wrap specialist before going that route!

Splitter is from eBay. Cheap!

I am with Petza on one issue: "Regular black over black is the combination that should be purchased when you know you'll be doing a color change. The reason is that any tiny crevice that shows when you open a door, the existing black paint will match the black interior and not be noticeable."

I do not think having a black door jam with be an issue with a wrapped car. Or at least a minor issue.

I have been looking for a speed yellow, black interior, cab, six speed turbo 997.2 or 991 but all PDK so far (though I was all excited to see a yellow targa manual until I saw the interior pics....gray!

Why not list your car for trade for a like car with color of choice with 10-15k on top?

So you get the right color, and keep the value of original paint.

Ill repeat what others have said... A top quality paint job is way nicer than any wrap. But a top quality paint job costs big $$$$.

I am at the end stages of finishing up my 997 project, including a repaint to Porsche Lizard Green. I absolutely love how things are turning out, but financially, the project makes zero sense.

I was able to justify the full paint colour change, as I was doing a lot of aftermarket body changes, which would have required a full repaint anyway. Plus, the original paint was faded to all different colours all around the car.

The car got a new front bumper, new wide front fenders, sunroof delete, and ducktail decklid. So, pretty much everything was going to need to be painted anyway, and I wanted a new windshield as well.

The other way I justified the cost to myself, was that I chose a colour that would normally be paint to sample on a new car, and cost quite a bit extra over stock. If you are repainting in a normal stock colour, and you arent doing any other body mods, I really cant see the point. As others have stated, the paint job alone, properly done, is going to be $15k to $20k.

In the end, its your money, so do what you want. My project will never make financial sense, but I dont really care

Because (i) my car is a known quantity with service history and (ii) a wrap is far less

There's lots of great feedback here. Not the same situation but my daughter LOVES her irreplaceable '09 TT with the VR6 and every option in the book. The only problem is that it wasn't blue. She had it painted a BMW blue and it looks stunning even though she didn't have all of the hidden areas painted. The main reason this works is, as mentioned, the original color was dark grey and the interior is black so the door openings don't contrast with the bright blue exterior.

For me, I would love to have a 997.2 but I'll stick with my 997.1 in Midnight Blue over a Sea Blue interior just because I know how much colors mean to me.

I assume the pink and gray 911s are “his and hers” (or “his and his”, not that there’s anything wrong with that!)

Nice, need to get my wife a 911 one so she stops driving mine! Had a manual Boxster, she agreed that I could get a 911 but had to get PDK so she could drive it too. Maybe I should have kept the Boxster!

Ha, the first time she mentioned she wanted to drive mine I bought hers. She still never has 8 years later.
