Default IMS Retrofit...home free?

I'm currently looking at an 05 C2S Cabrio with 25k miles. It's been documented that the IMS retrofit has been done. Does that mean I'm home free? Or is there still a concern it could cause issues down the road?

You are never home free with something mechanical. But this certainly reduces the chance of issue.

If you are looking for a "home free" experience with any high end sports car, you will be sorely disappointed. It does not exist. A nice 4 door Honda Accord or Toyota Camry is where it's at for that.

There has been so much written about the IMS that anything said here will be redundant to the nth degree. Do a search. Use Google, which will produce the best rennlist threads (the rennlist search function is terrible). You will find everything you want to know, and then some.

I assume you have the M96.05 engine with the 6204 bearing? What retrofit and when was it done? I would live with the thought that the bearing is "home free". Unless it's the IMS Solution from LN Engineering, you're going to have a service interval depending on when it was installed and how many miles.

How true is that. The fact is pretty simple but for some reason it won't stick. The one and only 100% "home free" solution to the IMS issue is to get a car that doesn't have the IMS bearing which will be an -09 or later.

Above is the correct answer. Unless it's the IMS Solution, that's the only lifetime bearing. The other replacements have a replacement interval of 70k miles I believe and I've seen them fail after that mileage.
