Default 997.1 Daylight running lights

Has anyone been able to wire in automatic Daylight Running Lights to a 997.1? My car is a 2005, Seal Gray and on these dark damp days its hard for folks to see a gray 911.

I have a 2007 C2S and there is a setting to enable DRL in the PCM menu...I can't remember offhand how to get there but you may want to check the manual.

The PCM menu DRL option just makes the headlights as DRL - at least this is true in 997.1 (not sure if 997.2 really has ability to control the DRLs)

OP, you might just want to make it a habit to set the headlight switch at the right position to run the "running lights" or even headlights.
There is a $2 DRL hack that folks have done to get the DRL to switch on with ignition - you could explore that too.

My car has auto-dimming rear view mirrors - so the car knows when it's "dark", but I think it would be a lot of work to make that signal control headlights or DRLs - haven't figured it out yet..

HOW can we make the 997.1 fog lights come on as DRL?

If you feel like tapping some wires.

The $2 DRL hack from the linked thread is the easiest way - did it in my wife's car and works great. I wanted the parking lights on my aftermarket LEDs to be the DRLs on my car so used a current sensing DRL module to know when the car is running by sensing the voltage change from 12.5 volts when off to 14 volts when running and then that triggers an SPDT relay to send current to the front parking lights. I made a YouTube video of it. A lot more wiring, but once I get an idea in my head, that's the way I have to do it.

This is where I mounted the current sensing module and SPDT Relay

It's the perimeter band of these lights that comes on whenever the engine is running. The fog light switch lights the white LEDs as normal

Close up when illuminated

Front view with both on

YouTube video description is here. I had other lights installed when I did the original conversion. Swapping to this newer style was just unplugging the old lights and installing the new ones.

I don't know why they call it the $2 hack..... For me it was more like 2 cents hack. And it has been working fantastic for the past 10 years.
