M97 option
Hi sand... the car is a 2006 C4S.. IDK what the X51 package cost back then exactly , and because it is not avail now, don't know what it's calculated cost would be now, 14 years later, and don't care. Your estimates are somewhat correct, but to me there is a bigger picture. A reman Porsche engine is a reman Porsche engine. I don't know the percentage of failed engines out there, just with the M97 series, however, this engine is hand built. It did not have a shelf of crankshafts, rods, pistons, cylinder heads, etc and then assembled. It is a one off rebuild, balanced, all pistons fit to each bore, ported and polished heads, IMS solution etc, a work of art. Yes an engine, but one that is "hand built" It has all the concerns and problems addressed with the stock M97 engines in a 4.0 L package, so that alone is worth it to me. I love my car, it's gong all the way with me.
Horsepower and torque gains: I expect a gain alone by .2L which is 12 cubic inches displacement, and ported heads, etc. How much?? IDK but added with a custom tune (which is yet to be installed) , other members I have chatted with saw a 40-60 hp gain, the torque numbers, were not posted. Yes, mid-range toque, improved, etc.
Once it's installed, I'll follow up with performance and once on a dyno, numbers so there is no BS about it!
hope than answered something, I tend to be long winded

When we build these engines, generic tunes can't be used with any overall positive results. When we dramatically change the engine's efficiency due to elevated compression ratio, port flow margin differences, camshaft timing alterations, and etc, the tune must follow these things.
One quick way to break my rules is to throw at generic tune at one of my engines, or bolt anything else to it that it didn't come with. Generic tunes usually increase the things that need to need to be decreased with our engines. This is just one example.
Concerning the comparison between my engine, and the factory X51. This is something that isn't possible, they share less than 20% of the same internal components, one is mass produced in a factory, using all the same components that usually bring an engine to us in the first place; while, the other is assigned to a single engine builder who has been with my company (as an engine builder) for a minimum of 14 years at this point. For those that want some fancy name, and a 9,000 RPM redline, I offer my R51 with CNC heads, and a lot more than just a cool name.

You gotta keep them wondering. That's what helps make the Wizard, the Wizard :-)

Yes, you are right!
Well, this FSI engine has all updates possible and build techniques, processes, parts and built by one person, who has dedicated their career to this product. Not a factory, assembly line engine, nor a factory reman, aftermarket reman, this is a reconstructed engine, my core parts, and everything, re qualified ( that is what we call it with heavy duty diesels when we re use parts ie: block, crankshaft, other major items) , measured, machined, fitted . The other priceless item here is the confidence knowing what's growling under the boot of my car! Nothing of this could have been offered when the car was new ( I am the second owner of my car) whether it be stock, or X51 package..
Now with 600 miles after the breakfast run this morn, and like I said, not a tick, click, smoke on start up, rattle, nothing and smooth as glass, like an electric motor back there!
Wow, do I love modifying cars, never gonna stop, now onto the next one, this winter!
